We want to welcome you to Minnesota Public Radio's groups on Gather! You can share your personal stories, discuss Minnesota politics, compare notes on the local music scene, even share gardening advice!
As you explore the groups, here are some things you can do right now to get the most out of your experience on Gather.com.
- Jump into the conversation by adding a comment to someone's article. Simply scroll to the bottom of any article, enter your comment in the box provided and click the Post button. You can also rate an article to let the author know you liked it.
- Publish images and select one to be your personal icon. Select the Image link from the Publish drop-down menu at the top of any Gather page. Use the Choose File button to find a picture on your computer and then hit Upload. You can make any image your member icon by using the set as my icon link.
- Invite members and earn points. Inviting your friends, family and colleagues to the Complexity group makes your community more vibrant. You'll also receive Gather Points for each member that you invite who joins Gather.
- Stay up-to-date with all the latest news from your groups and connections. To manage your settings, select My Info in the top toolbar of any Gather page. Click on Preferences in the drop down menu. Place a check in the boxes next to the email notifications you wish to receive.

Know also that there are several helpful Gather members! I found some great tips from folks here who are well-versed in navigating, publishing, and the social network aspect of Gather.
Dig around. Experiment. Use the Help pages. Check out Build a Better Gather for some tips and to see if things you're thinking about have already been flagged. User (he doesn't work fo rGather) Kevin V wrote a good article called An Insider's Guide to Gather and I'll admit I've referred to it more than a couple times!

And to think I thought the picture was going to be of a little old lady!
Now I finally got one of my own, but I also changed my display name to only display my last initial, as I have such a common name, it doesn't matter at all.
Anyway a start.
Glad you're here, Steven. (It will take awhile for me to get used to the new handles...) With groups you can make Gather as small and personal or as big and bold as you'd like. Hope you find it fun!
This isn't so bad.
However it's different and will take some getting used to.
Glad to see ya.
Richard
The picture's a Monet.
I use it in other forums, so for consistency, here it is again.
Will give it a go --- but I sure miss the old forum!
I didn't know you were also a Dick!
Thanks for any input that you had in getting this.
It's starting to look very good.
Somewhat easy to work with and to navigate in.
You're correct the poetry stuff in here is quite large and so what I've seen, nice.
Thanks again, Richard
I really did hope you'd like the writing aspect of this site. Don't hesistate to call out what you're reading now! The ability for each person to delete their own threads and comments is useful, and I gotta stop talking about the photos before you all think I'm obsessively excited about it. (Uhhh, I am.)
Like any change it will take some getting used to.

Aaarrggh!! Why am I getting so many emails! Help! by Web Salad and posted to the
Gather Help Forum (member to member)
how to put links into comments and gather emails by jessie voigts
Sure --- it's a fine feature. But, I get that in other web sites.
I miss the fact that our MPR forum was so comparatively cozy - local scene, local writers for the most part, and occasional posts from folks outside of our area who were nice enought to give their perspectives.
By contrast, Gather is kinda big with national writers and national issues. I get that in the 3 other American sites that I post on. I also post on 3 international web sites. Thus, I have lost the local touch that I enjoyed so much on MPR.
Whenever I logged on to the internet, MPR was always my first stop. I sure as heck am going to miss it and am not sure that I'll be here for too long. Don't mean to sound negative. It's just that I miss the local touch.
Hi Smedley.
How'd ya find us.
Portly and round or some other way?
Nice image. Monet's water lilies are soooo soothing!
