Hello Gather!
We will be conducting a very exciting site upgrade tonight, Monday November 2, 2009 from 11:00pm – 2:00am ET. The site will be unavailable during this time frame. Please be sure to complete any sharing/publishing prior to this time. Check back after 2:00am ET on Tuesday to log in and start your day on Gather.
After tonight’s upgrade:
- New site navigation – the top navigation tabs will be updated to help members more easily find the main areas of Gather.
- New My Gather page – veteran members will have the option to retain today's My Gather page or to try the improved version of the new My Gather page. New members will default to the new My Gather page. Veterans will be able to toggle back and forth to see what’s different and to offer ideas to Gather about the new layout.
- Enhanced Status Updates – Status updates have been improved so you can change your Gather status and simultaneously choose to automatically update your Facebook and Twitter statuses with a quick click of a box.
A post outlining the upgrade is now available at the Help Desk. Please join the Support team at the Help Desk tomorrow if you have any questions about the changes. We would love to hear your feedback at improve.gather.com.
As always, we appreciate your patience during the upgrade and we look forward to your feedback

I read in one of Kevin V's post a week or so that there was going to be an upgrade. I am excited to have changes to my gather page.
I deleted the last comment because I misspelled your name. Sorry
I love to give my opinion. LOL
What if we just said, no to any more improvements?
I'm glad you are giving the option to keep the original version if we like it better. I wish that you had taken this rather obvious step last time around.
Members who joined Gather prior to September 25, 2009 will be considered a veteran member for this change. Members who joined September 25 - today will be considered "new" members and will automatically have the new My Gather page. Veteran members will retain the current My Gather page and have the option to toggle to the new and back to the current page.

Some of the changes will certainly be welcomed, as Gather is bringing back former design elements (new mail indicator on most pages, drop down menus, etc.). However, other changes appear to make it more difficult for new or prospective members to gain a general sense of the site (hopefully not though). It will be interesting to see what a brand new member (or someone just visiting the site) will see when navigating around.
I don't think any of this is useful to a normal member.
A comment editor, an easier way to download photos and more points,
I would like to say that I love the Fonts and "colors" that have been added in to Our Article Editor. Love those!

We did (several months ago) adjust our Points formula to place more emphasis on creating popular content than browsing-related activities, but members do still earn for both. I found a great member-written article on how he's improved his earnings in a few simple ways:
