I believe that the current rating system needs to be replaced...but not removed entirely. A rating system CAN be very beneficial to the community, if designed properly. Sadly Gather seems oddly attached to the current one.

Probably because it generates articles (about ratings), comments (about ratings), and therefore site traffic, provided the reader's interest is in articles about ratings.

I agree Kevin.  Maybe one that is attached to a comment, so trolls are responsible.  That dang pull down screen needs to move, too, so I can give 10's without a fight.

You know you like it when you get rated low.  You think that means you're #1.  (I admit...I just hit '1' so you can enjoy your delusion a little longer...LOL!)

I don't ever rate, it takes too much time for me as well as thought process.

I like the rateings. It help's me to see where I last left off when I am viewing tree's, flower's ect. =)

There are several on gather that have chosen not to have their posts rate and you can still comment on the post..

Nope!

Only views generate points -- comments and ratings don't.  In theory, ratings are supposed to draw people to your posts, but most people admit they only pay attention to ratings when their own posts get low-rated.  :-)

I always try to rate but I do hate that bookmark thing.  It needs to be changed or moved.

I rate when I'm to lazy to comment. Lets do away with points. Then we could really see if gather is that importment to it's members .

It would still be here.  Most people are here to whine like me, but points and gift cards increase the site and make Gather money as well.  So?  Why are you here?

The ratings mean nothing to me, and I've noticed that yours have taken a beating lately, and I have an inkling of an idea of who the leader of the pack is.

Iggie the ratings, because even if they rate you low or high, you still get points.

If they take away the ratings then they go after you with flagging.
