Before you determine whether you really lost your work, you should check a few things:
- Make sure to sign into your account, and click "my posts" to view all of your posts. This way, you can see if you had accidentally published it with any privacy settings or restrictions that would render it invisible to some members and all those not signed in.
- Click "Explore" and then "share." Click "Share a post," and make sure that you don't have your post still saved as a draft. If you have any, your saved drafts would be listed in a blue box right above where you enter the title of the new post.
If you saw a blank white or gray screen after you clicked the "Submit" button to publish your post, then most likely your login session had ended while you were in the midst of creating your post. Here's a trick to get around this problem:
- Before you click the "Submit" button on your post, open a fresh browser tab or window.
- Leave your post alone for the moment, and use the new tab/window to navigate to www.gather.com.
- If are brought to your "My Gather" page, then you know you are still signed in. You can go back to your post and feel safe clicking the "Submit" button.
- If instead, you see the Gather homepage and are prompted to log-in or register, that means you are no longer logged in. You must log into your account before going back and clicking the "Submit" button.
If you plan on writing a lengthy post, you should ALWAYS check off the "keep me signed in" box when you sign in before publishing. If you do not check this box, then you run a higher risk of losing your work.
For added security, you may also want to try clicking "save as draft" every 15-20 minutes or so while publishing.
If you want to be super-safe, you might want to consider composing your post in an offline word processor, and then copying it onto Gather when you're finished.

I will post the link to this post in Thursday"s edition of Today On Gather.
Save after clicking your groups.
Save after checking your work.
Save after a couple of paragraphs or photos.
Save.
Save.
Save.
Copy the whole thing into Word.
If it is lost upon posting, just PASTE from Word.
Saving is a great tip, so is the back button and the history list. If not for the history list I would have lost an hours worth of work this morning. Lucky me.
I was notified of your first comment, and therefore I can see some of it in the email notification. How did you lose it? Did you accidentally click "remove comment"?
Recently while we had the summerpics promo, it would not copy and I ended up doing the same post over several times.
Yes, it is a stability issue that we hope will be eased considerably after some steps we're taking in the near future.
I described this phenomenon here, by the way.(You're actually mentioned there, Chuck. ;-)
That's the trick I need to remember. Sometimes I get booted out while I'm typing a comment!
Not a draft, not a totally blank screen, still on gather, but NOTHING - a regular gather screen as one would see after publishing, but no post in the middle section! ARGH!
Secondly...when you click on My Photos...only one image appears...two strangers hugging.
Copy, save or write it elsewhere & upload it...my new post it reminder on the computer screen.
