Some of my Friends are LEAVING GATHER because of glitches.
These glitches include, but are not limited to:
Inability to leave comments
Inability to use thier gather mail system
Inability to publish articles
Inability to publish images
I am wondering just how many of you have these problems (although if you cannot leave comments, you won't be leaving any here. Mail me, please). If you do have these problems, have you contacted gather? Is so what did they say?
I have read many articles complaining about these "glitches" lately. Have any been resolved?
I personally have not experienced these problems. I don't want to see my friends go. Maybe if we compiled a list or something...

Prior to me getting my puter fixed,finally,the glitches killed my gathering,so i stopped.
now,no problems with a couple exceptions,points are scarce,cant go to my groups,sometimes i haveta reload the screen twice to post 1 comment and can hardly post anything at alll
I think Gather was ruined when they introduced the video and the updates.
i dont come on hardly at all anymore since that happened.
alot of the people i know hae already left gather.

Christopher, I have noticed that the points don't seem to be adding up as much as they did before too... Has anyone else noticed that?
That doesn't really bug me so much, though, because I'm usually too impaitent to view it. I do wish I could see my comments, though, and reply to them from the videos.

if people want to leave let them go, there will be plenty more people. gather does still pay and they always figure out the glitches sooner or later. and the points and cash come back...
As for me, I haven't received email notices for months, so it's hard for me to keep up on my article comments. Other than that "no" problems, I guess.
I haven't been real active or posted much lately so I don't know if there are any more glitches waiting for me. Hope not.
I'm going to assume Gather will get things fixed and all will be well in the kingdom of Gather very soon.
So if your friends are leaving .... were are they going?. I don't know of another site that is comparable.
Thats why I am emailing you. That still works, as does rating via stars, and flagging. OOPS, I discovered not to experiment with that as if it takes the article disappears and their are hrt feelings!
I have emailed Mary Ann my complaint. Maybe gather has a secret no-fly list! LOL.

And after I posted this, I got 2 emails saying they couldn't leave comments.
I do hate having to click several times before things happen but until I read about everyone else's problems I assumed that had something to do with my hardware. Now I am not so sure.
Anyway-- hopefully it will get worked out for us all.
If I see one more article complaining about Gather glitches, someone is going to wind up face down in my pool. And then, Mr. DeMille, I'll be ready for my close-up.
I'm sorry I haven't commented on anyone's articles but ever since Gather did their upgrades I haven't been able to comment on anyone's articles and I haven't been able to submit my own articles. The POST and COMMENT buttons don't work. The only things I've been able to do is read and respond to e-mails and view articles.
I've sent Gather support (and Tom Gerace) a couple of e-mails but I haven't heard word. If anyone out there has some ideas on what is going on or have an idea on what I can do I would really appreciate it. I know that another Gatherite is having the same problems I'm having (she e-mailed me and told me that Gather told her to be patient....something about working out the bugs). But, this has been going on for almost a week now and this is getting ridiculous!

I received three emails from people who said they cannot comment or post to gather.
Pat S., http://shinythings.gather.com has changed her icon to a protest marcher carring a sign saying free Ann B. who is having the same problem.
I'd like to put together an article, listing all the names, as well as your gather home page, of the people who can no longer comment or post to gather.
Maybe this will help Gather to resolve this issue for all of you.
So if you are one, email me, if you know one, ask them to email me, using cannot comment or post in the subject line.
Please, do not respond to this email unless you are having this problem.

If you have contacted gather be assured that even if you did not receive a reply to your email, it has been read and the problem added to the list or checked to see if it was there already. Tom explained soon after the update that images were being recovered from the previous server. As to my knowledge, this problem has been rectified.
As for the inability to comment on articles, we know about this problem and are working on it from our end. Even the guides have had problems onsite as well as seasoned computer users. It is not a problem experienced by only a few users.
If you are having problems accessing video....here are a few self help things you might try. If they don't work, please contact the Gather guides or myself and we will look into the problem further.
a) Switch browsers.
b) Update your browser.
c) Turn off TEMPORARILY your anti-virus and firewall software.
d) Update your video driver.
Heather, thank you for posting Carl's letter, As I have told members all week long, we cannot help solve a problem if we do not know about it. And that brings me to the daily guide article. Gather guides is not just a forum for questions from newbies but a way that the guides can help members through some of the latest glitches and problems onsite. We are trained in solutions to problems as they occur and many times we either have the solution for you or can find it. But as I have mentioned before, we cannot help with a problem we do not know about.
Chip. I'm sorry you find the guides to be less than helpful. You certainly have the option not to ask us for help. While your opinion is certainly welcome on gather, name calling is not and is in fact a TOS violation. I must ask that you refrain from it in the future in postings. If you have a problem, a concern or a complaint I invite you to visit the Gather guides article of the day and leave a comment there or contact me directly. I assure you we will do all in our power to help members make gather a better experience for everyone!
Cathy, if you cannot see invitations, it may be because they are of adult content enabled (ie: language etc) check your settings to see if you will accept adult content, check them temporarily, update your settings page and then try again to access the invitations. My guess would be that that is your problem. Oftentimes with an update to the site, your settings need to be re-set. I periodically check mine to make sure they are where I want them to be. If that does not work, please contact the guides or myself and we'll check further for you.
if there are any other problems, again I urge you to visit the Gather guides and post your problem or concern there. We will address the problem and will do all in our power to help you as well!

hmmm... maybe the guides should let Tom know this, since he has this to say on my home page: "Fellow Gatherers, We are having difficulties with the Support team email box. Messages emailed to Support@gather.com are not reaching the team."
Janna...."we are working on it" simply means that we are keeping gather apraised of all the problems members are having onsite. I am not a technology person by any stretch of the imagination but I CAN and have been compiling lists of problems as they occur and which members have these problems as well. This helps gather in identifying the problems, some of which we are aware and can leave tips on things that have worked for us in solving the problems (as I listed in my above comment) Some problems are member specific and when we can identify them as such we can help. Also if you keep an eye on the we will also regularly post tips and notices that members may find helpful in solving problems when they occur onsite.
Sandy, when I mentioned contacting gather, it was meant in many ways and not just emailing them. We are aware of the problems with the email to support. Tom will update us as gather finds the problem. You can also contact the guides at for any updated information or simply to leave a concern or problem you are having in our daily article. You can also contact myself or any gather guide. We will help you in any way possible. If you are having a problem, feel free to drop me a line. As for those who have reported no problems....great! I'm glad the bugs are being ironed out for you. The site is going through a lot of growing pains right now and we appreciate your patience and understanding on the issues onsite. :-D
