I have started a new group called Innovation Futures. In short, we will seek solutions to the grand problems and opportunities of the nation and the world.
Innovation Futures is all about the future of our lives. I hope that all will offer your viewpoints, your opinions, your ideas. The idea is to debate options for how to deal with energy issues, social issues, political issues, health care issues, technological issues, science issues, international issues, climate change issues, environmental issues, photography issues...any issue with which we can apply our combined intellects to resolve.
The goal is to stimulate debate on important issues facing us all, and to offer an opportunity for all sides to present their case. Ideally, authors will post articles on specific issues (e.g., energy policy, social security, environment, etc).
I will moderate this group solely to keep it focused on innovation and to avoid it becoming a "post it all" group. All viewpoints are welcome and strongly encouraged.
Remember, there is no restriction on the topic. Innovations can be applied to all segments of our lives.
I look forward to hearing from everyone.
A note about the group icon: Look closely. You'll see steps leading up a tube. This is the inside of one of the tubes connecting the globes of the Atomium in Brussels, Belgium. The Atomium, built for the 1958 World's Fair, is a huge version of an iron atom. I did a story on the Atomium in my "If it's Tuesday, This Must be Belgium" series. Click on the links for more photos.

Your article is a prime example of what I am looking for.

I wonder whether innovation has slowed, and knowledge for the sake of knowledge has taken a back seat to the exploitation of ideas for financial gain in government, academia, and industry.
I look forward to joining the discussion.
Some myths become cliche' The old worn out story of, "go to school, get good grades, go to a good college so you can work for a stable corporation with good benefits, retire at 60, buy an RV" and so on. If working for a company just to have security and retire in thirty years sounds like a limiting concept to you, that's good, because it is.
If you want to author your own story, write it by the conscious and deliberate actions of your life, not by default through following limiting social agreements.
I remember this photo from your Tuesday editions.
Yep, thought this was a good photo for an icon. The road to the future, exactly!
I look forward to participating in your solutions endeavor. Great idea David!! :-)
Thanks for taking the initiative

Once the election is over I'm sure we'll start refocusing on making the opportunity happen.
Please join and offer any thoughts you may have.
No posts on the round-the-world trip? I expected this group to show some enthusiasm for the solar taxi (http://www.solartaxi.com/) Isn't anybody else excited about the possibility of passive energy - no coal, wind farms, etc.!
