When someone always has the first 1, 2, 3 and sometimes 4 most discussed articles on Gather I need to take my hat off to them! The intrinsic value of his Gather points is now probably more than the net worth of Gather Inc.
This because William M. is polite, says 'Good morning', doesn't bring up Iraq (or anything else with any weight for that matter) he is true gentleman and his people respond to him because of that.
Politeness and corny joke...my kinda guy. I am serious, if there more William M's and less Alan Dershowitz's the world would be a more pleasant place...maybe a little dull...but definitely more pleasant!
William M...Congrats on your success within Gather.

I just checked William M. has 8 of the 24 top most discussed articles on Gather!
He is a powerhouse.
I - and a whole bunch of other people - enjoy dropping by them.
If points are how Gather keeps score... he wins.
Gather had it's day late last spring maybe summer, it was interesting and fun.
Now it is dull, corporate and boring Pablum.
I want Liberal sucks back (aka the yes man) I want Greg, Johnny 5k, Dirty Steph, Martin pussyman and even those Islamic terrorists etc back online. It was interesting to say the least.
My point of this article is that Gather has changed.
BTW why would you be disappointed that I submitted this to 'your' 100 things about me group? That's weird I submitted it to every group I belong to. There are many, many more things to be disappointed with when it comes to Gather.
First find a bunch of email jokes that are cute, patriotic, or having something to do with the baby jebus. Post each one as its own "article" daily.
Then start a "Good Morning" thread. When it hits 100 comments start a Part II and so on until it is the afternoon.
Then start a "Good Afternoon" thread. When it hits 100 comments start a Part II and so on until it is the evening.
Then start a "Good Evening" thread. When it hits 100 comments start a Part II and so on until it is the the morning.
You should also complain vociferously when you get low ratings for all your hard work.
Here's the thing. I look at the "most discussed" and "most read" to find interesting things to read. It kinda defeats the purpose when 6 out of the top 7 are "Good Morning" (or afternoon or evening volumes I-IX) articles that pretty much say noting.
A radical suggestion: can't there be a private group or something for these types of articles?
It's an utter disgrace when someone writes " come on in and grab a cup of coffee " and makes it into the top articles on Gather when it isn't actually an article.
I get your point in your article here Bruce...Gather has changed.
"where never is heard a discouraging word,
and the skies are not cloudy all day."
That does it for me. If you don't like the articles, don't connect with William and don't visit them. It sure is nice to have a place to go where I am never attacked for being a Christian or for being a conservative and where even the people who spar in the other articles adhere to a code of conduct that holds cordiality and friendship as the highest attributes and frowns on the nastiness that pervades much of the rest of gather. People enjoy them or they wouldn't be so successful.
You're correct Nanci...people do enjoy the Good Morning articles ( and I use the word article very loosely ) , however there should be a different forum for those discussions. It's a slap in the face of an author who has put a lot of work into writing an article to see " Good Morning Gather " in the top 5 every day.
I just meant that in general when we bicker, it seems to generate more back and forth, more comments and I would guess more exposure to the ads that earn Gather the money.
And in using the word bicker, I was trying to avoid talking about the confrontation and nastiness that abounds on certain areas of gather. Conversations like this don't even enter onto the bicker radar.
Try something new.
I think i have said it before, but we all may want to remember this
if we keep doing what we have been doing, then we will keep getting what we have been getting
I spend a lot of time on articles, and at most get 10 comments, so I understand everyone's frustration, but we need to try and change what we can change, does anyone agree?
I like it all though... I dabble in just about everything, so it works for me. I am a newbie (signed up in August 06) though so I never knew what Gather was before this.
Thanks for this. I hear all the time about how Gather has changed, and I am sorry for that.
True, Bongo, you have just solved the problem.
Who has time to read countless hellos or me-too posts? Or stupid jokes I get sent in email from my Dad (from him I accept it). I sit at my puter and work all day, don't have much spare time for reading the important and engrossing artiles here and other places online I like to vists each day. Some peeps have way too much time on their hands.
OTOH I was an early gather pest inciting for one of those php chat rooms; also wanted gather to refresh automatically like gmail does. Gmail is sweeeet. I'm also an arguer, we got into some fights in the day, hey Bruce. Remember Elmo? I guess I've been to busy to keep up.
It says something when a positive article is continually listed as most discussed, or highest rating or any other category. The ones running close second to William are the controversial article that draws attention like a magnet.
Way to go William.
I wake up every morning
Pour coffee in a cup
And stop to read an article
To pick my spirit up
The message light and friendly
Is a gentle wake-up call
It starts "Good Morning Gather"
And it welcomes one and all
The messenger reminds us
To hug those we hold dear
With bits of country humor
With sweetness and good cheer
With stories shared throughout the day
His wisdom to impart
With courtesy and caring
And gentleness of heart
His comments nurturing and kind
His counsel sage and wise
His mastery of diplomacy
Is where his talent lies
D...Yeah Elmo was a trip also.
