To the west of Cairo, three pyramids rise from the edges of the Nile. The belief is that these pyramids of Giza were built around 2500 B.C. They are the only remaining from the ancient seven wonders of the world.
Architect, Philip Johnson states, "What is there about the desire for domination, or to reach God, or for private pride - the pyramids are an example of that."
And this is our journey.
To reach God.
I believe we start out in life with God in the center of it all and then the world closes in on us. We veer off our path. We believe we are not good enough or do not measure up to the standards of society. We own our negative thinking and, gradually, we lose sight of the truth: we are each uniquely designed and embedded with amazing gifts to share with the world. We often forget we even have gifts.
So we wind up navigating through this world almost blindly, simply trying to feel complete again.
•· We seek relationships with the hope they will either complete us or compliment us.
•· We purchase clothes, cars, houses, and the latest technical devices in our effort to stay even with the status quo, hoping we will feel like we have finally arrived.
•· We perform at work, at functions, and at family gatherings, yearning for a sense of belonging.
While beneath our own skin, our inner journey is often placed on hold.
This is a backward entrance to your life's purpose.
The journey begins inside.
See, you are already pre-approved. You do not need a title, a bigger house, or someone else's opinion to measure up. You were perfectly designed because God doesn't make junk.
If you hold to this as YOUR truth, what would change in your life?
My journey has always included writing in some capacity. I've been writing (and publishing) articles since the age of 19. This is over two decades of tossing my opinion bravely to the world. This is also over two decades of publishers, editors and the media demonstrating even more courage than I, and placing my ideas in print!
When I first began writing for the world, it was just that: I wrote to fill up a void in my own life. I needed acceptance. I have to admit, I was an approval addict in those early years and during this time, I also journaled. The journal was an inner journey, a private undertaking to seek answers and create awareness for myself.
Almost seven years ago, these two worlds of writing began to overlap. I began to share my journal entries and tools with the world in my articles, books and blogs, hoping only that these things that worked in my life would help others as well.
I began to write articles that mattered to me, which were not necessarily popular or widely received. I jumped out of the need for approval and into self-acceptance. It was only then that I became centered on God and realized "this is the point in all that we do." It is all a journey back to God. And every grand attempt that man makes can be related to this theory.
Try to insert a spiritual spin on the greats in our culture:
- Music
- Literary Works
- Art
- Buildings
- Movies
If you seek a significant spiritual meaning behind man's greatest efforts, you will see God's hand in it all.
It is the same in your own life.
What is the difference between your inner and your outer journey?
"The pyramids looked as if they would wear out the air, boring holes in it all day long," said Florence Nightingale.
Are you, like the pyramids, wearing out your own life? Are you trying to push through a ceiling that does not exist? Are you trying to measure up to something truly immeasurable? Or are you just trying to reach God?
I challenge you to look at your quest, this one life you have been given, and ask if you reaching God?
