The Gilmore girls -reality show

My daughter had brought home a set of the first season of "The Gilmore girls", 6 DVDs altogether

I  have refused to be enslaved to t.v. have found myself slowly lured into the world of the Lorelais and their quaint New England.

A bit late, don't you think, asked my friend on the phone 

better late than never i replied still in 2001's episode.. 

I finally  found the answer to my nonexisting social life , i had my own little town replacement in a box and so i pulled down the blinds , turned my back to the sun and the sunday crowds of mother's day and spent a day in Stars Hollow .

I could not help but compare between real  single mom's life and  t.v. single mom , based on a small sample of local girls..

 
1) Coffee: love  both love to drink Coffee

 T.V. mom in a diner where everyone knows eachother and actually care how your day is going to turn out.

Real life mom: in Macdonald's or anywhere else where you get a cup and a cake for around 1 dollar. At the rate the workers come and go at Mac, anonymity is guaranteed !

2) Kids:we both have kids

T.V. mom has well adjusted book worm daughter 

Real life mom: has three screaming children that tend to act out whenever confronted with stress.

3) support:

T.V. mom has a group of little angels , a cook that comes and saves the day at the school's baking event, the local diner owner locks up shop and drives her when she has an emergency, the overweight dance teacher , the whole town is keeping an eye out for her child, 

last but not least the Millionaire parents that write a check on condition that daughter shows up for dinner with child every Friday evening.

Grandparents interested, involved.

Real life mom:

Has an assortment of women on the verge of divorce/separation calling to share the burden, complain till 2 a.m. thus turning real life mom to a Zombie the next day..

Baking is conducted by real life mom herself or local supermarket.

survivig aging Mother would probobly be happy to write a check provided daughter does NOT show up with grandchildren for an extended visit.

 4) Dating:

T.V. mom: 

Single mom is in big demand, just one look at those beautiful blue eyes and men are just showing up demanding to date her, overcoming all obstacles, willing to wait , will do anything for her.

she has a whole wardrobe of gorgeous sexy clothes to wear, nice shoes too and she is working full time, has great legs too.mysteriously in shape despite binging on junk food and a diet of pizza and candy bars!!

Real life mom:

Not only is not able to date because is constantly on the verge of a nervous breakdown and looks like it too , despite diet of cornflakes and fresh fruit.

Clothes are forever full of mud stains from playing soccer with kids and walking the dog.

shoes wrecked, pot belly despite constant exercise chasing the kids and lost pets.

 If by chance a man is interested to date it could be for the following two reasons:

interested to sell her life insurance or real estate or on bail ...

the children's teacher if male is either elderly and losing his hair or gay.

 5) Ambitious mom

T.V. mom : wishes her daughter will attend Harvard and have the opportunities she never had.

talented and bright daughter wants to go to Harvard and be a journalist 

Real life mom: hopes her daughter will skip the long years of university and simply get a  job!

 talented and bright daughter wants to be a top model or rock star.

6) Furniture:

T.V. mom : has a sofa in good condition, that no kid has ever jumped on or has stained with ice cream or pizza 

reality  mom : sleeps on the sofa bed..has assorted charity shop shelves .. walls and sofa stained with assorted colors of pizza and ice cream flavors..

Well it is just the first season but i think i have seen enough ,

you out there whose knowledge of the life of a single mom is limited to this or other T.V. series, 

don't be fooled to believing this remotely resembles real life but we can all dream , can't we?
