Hi Diana, I just got home, was out front of my polling place all day seeking support for proposal 1 (medical marijuana) in Michigan.

I've a got a can of pop, a bag of chips and a fatty, waiting for the results to come in.

I'll try to blog what I'm hearing as they come in.

Jim - that's good news anyway! I'd love to get some help posting results - and also to get your thoughts. Here is a link to Jim's article on early exit polling. (Thanks!)

Richard - I'll be interested to learn how that turns out. Did you feel supported in your efforts?

I'm watching Diana. I'll keep checking back here so we can all have a running conversation.

Go Obama!

I just can't wait to get these criminals outta la casa blanca. I'm sick of having the people who run our country only have its worst and most base and greedy interests at heart.

Announcers are speculating that young and first time voters will boost the vote for Obama.
Having consulted with a young voter, I've been informed that her friends are McCain supporters and a few support Ron Paul.

hey folks - check out CNN, they're using some new technology that's fascinating. It's like a 3D hologram of people who aren't in the studio but this technology makes it look like they are. Sorry, can't remember what they're calling it, but it's way cool. I saw it demo'd on ABC, am watching both CNN & ABC (my tivo has 2 tuners).

Not a surprise, all of the southern racist states are unlikely to vote for a black man. 'cept for Florida of course. Obama's ahead in FL now:
OBAMA 55%
MCCAIN 45%

From what I heard there are not as many young people as they portrayed there would be, and what is drawing them to Obama is that many of them are non-white. This may be closer than I thought.

Texas polls results sources: NBC news and NYTimes

Obama has carried the major population centers by BIG margins (e.g., in the 60's)
Houston, Dallas, Austin...
McCain ahead in rural areas...
(Texas has a lot of rural areas!)

BUT, San Antonio has not been counted yet or El Paso... Those could be big
It's still early...
Texas likely to still go to McCain...
Good to see it SO CLOSE HERE!!!

I've got to leave now folks, dance class awaits. But I'll be watching CNN on my Treo so even though I won't be here until much later I can keep up w the news.

I can barely allow myself to even imagine that Obama will win. I've been bitterly disappointed so many times before. So I'm tripping between excitement and fear. Colin Powell was right, this is a transcendent moment in American politics... and we're living an historic moment.

See you all later!

Diana, what do you mean - "not exactly". If I am not mistaken the Democrats have held a majority in both the Senate and the Congress. That is control.

If I am also not mistaken, Bush has used his veto less than did Clinton.

An interesting question that has been bandied about is "if the Democrats gain a veto-proof majority in both houses, what does that mean for a president Obama?"

How will he be able to keep Pelosi and Reid in line?

Or shall we say, how can he keep from becoming irrelevant?

Greg,

We've had veto proof majorities before under Democratic administrations and the president never became irrelevant. It would be nice if the congress would take back their manhood from the blind trust in which it has been placed! But don't worry, this president will know how to use the veto pen and will be a strong presence in all that takes place.

No sour grapes Gary, it is more of "be careful of what you wish for".

A strident majority Congress will not be good for Obama or the Democrats. I would think the people who know that the best are the very people on Gather who were screaming for divided government two years ago.

I am starting to feel a very strong emotion, but I am holding back, because once I let it go, it will be a volcano, and I dont want to erupt prematurely (figuratively speaking of course).

Yeah, the Republican Congress and Bush gave us this mess to begin with, Obama looks to be far more responsible and judicious than GWB. The Repubican strategy of locking all the money up in the deficit before they let the government go over the Democrats still needs to be rolled back.

Greg Schiller , your comment regarding: "A strident majority Congress" ~ "people on Gather who were screaming for divided government two years ago."

Are they the same people and are the reasons for their departure because of faith in the new Majority will do whats right and not lead through corruption on behalf of the few?

Bruce,

The Decrates gave us the current economic melt-down. The sub-prime crisis is a crisis of REGULATION not deregulation. It was Clinton's HUD secretary Andrew Cuomo who worked to REQUIRE Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to issue 56% of their portfolio as sub-prime mortgages.

.....but then somehow this became "Bush's" fault.

they already flipped one county in florida that they originally projected to go to obama over to mccain as the final reports came in. so projection changes can happen.

Greg Schiller , somehow this became "Bush's" fault.

If the economy was in such a precarious position and a President does not act to correct it but, allows the economy to tank, who's fault is it ?
