From the ends of the earth to your own back yard,Bluegrass, metal, hip-hop, yacht rock...the sound is up to you. The story and the lyrics you need to incorporate should inspire or challenge your creativity. Don't say it can't be done, three Minnesotan musicians -- Best Friends Forever, P.O.S., and Jeremy Messersmith - already did it. To join the good company follow these steps:
Mouth and mind drink all but won't fill an empty heart.
It's all within -- energy and matter, namaste and ohm,
Myriad formulas, nostrums and prayer -- all roads lead home.

This is VERY COOL Julia!
I'll feature this in tomorrow's Community DateBook™ and keep it listed throughout the entry period!
I can't wait to see the results!
Ginny, last year's lyrics were written by a poet and it was an entire set. This year, there's only that piece from Adam Levy (could be a chorus, could be something else) to incorporate and we're looking for people to structure their own song around it.
Thanks Kevin, and I'm looking forward to them too. Wonder if we'll get video and some A cappella too.
Nippy, it is fun! I'll look for your upload!
A question regarding the use of Mr. Levy's lyrics: is it necessary to keep the lines together as a whole within our songs?
They work together well, I am just curious how flexible this year's contest is.
Thanks!
I do know Adam Levy as well.
I have ideas for songs..but can't really play the instruments or sing well enough necessarily to often complete them. But no question, with all the music and other forms of influences I take-in, I have ideas for songs and music.
I'll have to think about this.
So Sarah, I think... I think you should be as creative as you'd like to be. Embrace the challenge of not changing Levy's lyrics, but incorporate them in the way you'd like to and however it suits your song. I'd be interested to see what you think of that, and if you're working on it now.
I'm unsure yet whether I will in fact break the lyrics up at all, but I appreciate the apparent openness of the songwriting challenge.
I'll let you know if/when I have completed my song...
Thanks again!
Oh man, Sandy you probably sing better than I could! Can you write music? Maybe someone out there would be willing to partner on the singing portion!
