The Dead Brain Era in Baseball I was looking at the impending apocalypse that is Barry Bonds march of shame towards Hank Aaron's record. I wrote a piece a while back called "The Dead Brain Era in Baseball." I think it still holds true about what is happening to the game. You should check it out:

This is more about what your Kvetching about. One of the more disturbing comments in George Wills article is that NFL, and NBA, fans aren't as disappointed in steroid use as they are of baseball players, because baseball players are predominently white, middle class, and fans EXPECT better ethical behavior from baseball players.
YIKES! One wonders if Will knows how amazingly racist that is? It seems he doesn't.
Another image from Will's Newsweek piece that stuck in my head. Barry's hat size has increased, after he started to shave his head.........after the hair started to fall out from the steroids......my grey hair stood up reading this.
But generally the kvetch that baseball is big business...........errrr....yeah? I think it was Furman Bisher the famous sports writer who wrote in the winter baseball winter meetings in the late 70's "It's hard feeling sorry for the baseball owners when they are running up and down the hall of their hotel yelling, 'someone stop me from spending my money!'" The players union defeated the owners, so they put Bud Selig in charge..............talk about counter intuitive...then maybe not....if its mad money chasing mad money, and greed is your creed. Perhaps it all makes sense.
If the business of baseball bugs you too much stop watching, stop reading box scores. Bonds breaking Aaron's record is obscene, and the point Will makes is very valid. The world would be a better place if Bonds retired in 1998. The world would be a better place if Al Gore were president the last eight years, the world would be a better place.......well you get the idea. Pull out the lamenated Serenity Prayer and go into the chant.......and worry about the things you can do something about.
As for the Braves, they just need to get rid of pitchers like Chuck James who constantly lose! They have a really good team both offensively and defensively...now they just need to get a couple of really good starting pitchers! GO BRAVES!
