The NFL has reached the mid-point of the season. College football's BCS standings are out and they're talking about bowl games. Hockey is in full swing, the b-ballers are tuning up and here we are at the end of October still trying to decide a World Series Champion.
Is it time to shorten the season? Give the fans back the Sunday doubleheaders. Put the doubleheaders back on the holidays. Or maybe it's time to take the World Series to a neutral warm weather park to eliminate what's happening now with the bad weather in a midwest matchup.
Please don't preach to me about traditions of the game. The players and owners have already dismantled those. I could remember when 50 home runs in a season was a milestone. Now they approach that at mid season. Performance enhancing drugs have already dampened the interest of a once die-hard baseball fan such as myself.. There was a time when baseball was on my tv all summer. Didn't matter who was playing. It was baseball.
I was still overjoyed to see my still beloved White Sox win a World Series before I died. But, the Great American Pastime ain't the same anymore. The almighty dollar has taken over my once favorite sport. The old saying "you can't tell the players without a scorecard" has never rung truer. From season to season you always ask,"who's on first?" A far cry from the days I could recite the roster from memory.
Finding out the World Series Champion shouldn't take until November.
