I thank my lucky sox I am a Varitek fan. Not that Mirabelli is bad...he's actually pretty decent. I follow what positions my kids play and usually end up liking that player best if you follow what I mean.
In the swing of the Cowboy up (pun intended) I watched every playoff game. I blew off cheerleading practice (and I was the coach), dinner was served at 3:30 so I wouldn't miss a pitch, and all eyes were on Papi, Nixon, Varitek and of course Damon the idiot. My girlfriend, a die-hard Damon fan dressed as him for halloween. Yes, Johnny was in all of our hearts as he helped us win the world series. Ahhh, dramatic pause followed by stun "He did what?" Signed with the Yankees. The hated, the ultra enemy, Jeter's side of the tracks. Those snot nosed, yuppie, rule abiding, short haired, baby faced, I have more words but my kids read this...Yankees.
Two days ago my son was picked (oh yeah, 1st round drafted catcher, tried out with only 2 broken ribs the other 3 are healed.) for the Red Sox. Immediately I went shopping. Nick got a sweatshirt and hat, Carleigh got 3 Red Sox outfits, including one with a pennant skirt, the other boys and my hubby got tees and hats. I of course just needed nothing...I have red sox gear enough to clothe a small world country. The ole Irish, Boston pride. As I am picking through Marshalls Red Sox gear I find a genuine MLB jersey Nicks size (2T). Ecstatic I look at the price tag $14.99. Yes. Jackpot. Olympia sells the same one for $45.00. I pick it up and put it in my cart. I search the racks but can't find the favs. No Beckett yet, no Manny, no Varitek. Couldn't remember if Mirabelli was traded or not. Found a Schilling bought it at $20.00.
As I am checking out it occured to me I never checked the back of Nicks shirt. I look. My stomach turns DAMON. I don't want this, Sorry. I apologized to the cashier. A foreign teenager, maybe 19, with a heavy accent. I think Brazillian.
As I start to explain the unexplainable, being a Boston sports fan, I am interrupted by this young lady.
"No Damon, I know, No one want it. It go on clearance tomorrow!"
I laugh in spite of the sickening feeling I get whenever I hear that name. Here is this young girl, foreign, working retail. Is there anyone in this state not a fan? Remember the Yankees &%#k , Jeter Bl$#% shirts? Or the A-Rod is a %$#^ I can't wait to see the Damon one.
