Powells Books is the largest independent bookstore in the U.S. It's here in Portland, and is nicknamed the "city of books" for its multi-block used, collector and new book stores including singular stores devoted to cooking, gardening and more. It's been owned by the Powell family here since its inception, so I love giving it props when I can. Thanks for checking this out!

Love Powells and never miss a stop there when in Portland.....thx for posting this and i will let you know what my choice is once i peek out the rules ...i usually read books printed in various years,so need to know if accepting non-2007 publishing dates...

I just entered my pick, then looked at last year's winners. I read several of them and didn't agree that they were winners. Some weren't bad, but they wouldn't have been my top picks.
