We are honored to announce the Undergraduate and Graduate winners of our 2006 Citizen Journalism Scholarships, undergraduate student Vladic Ravich for The Land of Abkhazia and graduate student Jim Milbury for Fernando Suarez del Solar. The Gather editorial team reviewed the submissions and chose the finalists, whose articles were then sent to Arianna Huffington of The Huffington Post©. Arianna hand-selected the winners based on their writing skill and their ability to represent the integrity of journalism. Each winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship and an opportunity to intern at the HuffingtonPost.com in New York or Los Angeles.
We would also like to recognize the 1st Runner Up in both the Undergraduate division and the Graduate division who will also have to opportunity to intern at HuffingtonPost.com. Congratulations to undergraduate student Adam Marantz for Spring Cleaning: A Firsthand Look at the Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort and graduate student Heidi Rivers for Face.

This article takes the reader on a journey through the little-known country of Abkhazia in an exploration of the development of culture, society, and politics. Ravich is currently an undergraduate student at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY.
Graduate: Jim Milbury for Fernando Suarez del Solar
A gripping and emotional article that delves into a family's loss and their personal crusade to end the war in Iraq. Milbury is currently a graduate student at Cal State Fullerton in Fullerton, CA.
Jim and Vladic's Grand Prizes include a $1,000 scholarship courtesy of Gather.com and a full-time internship at the HuffingtonPost.com office of their choice.

Adam writes about his part in the Hurricane Katrina relief effort and the hope and inspiration that abounds throughout New Orleans. Marantz is currently an undergraduate student at Rutgers University.
Graduate: Heidi Rivers for Face
A disturbing, yet sensitive, look at a drug addict's affect not only on his friends and family, but also on society as a whole. Heidi is a graduate student at Hamline University in Saint Paul, MN.
