INNER SPRINGS NEWS report: Granny CG's Good News

The long-awaited Grand Opening of the Holy Grill Cafe is coming up, and all are welcome! The amazing Portobello family has been preparing their little slow food lunch room for an onslaught of Inner Springers come this Sunday at 12 noon. This reporter has already had three previews of the children's fabulous puppet show, "The Mysterious Adventures of Captain Carrot," starring a genuine carrot and a toy rabbit, with assorted other veggies. Believe me, folks, the Carrot gets funnier by the moment.

The senior Portobellos have opened their hearts to receive contributions from the community as well, so anyone who wants to contribute natural slow food recipes, or even bring along samples of your favorite home-made slow foods for all to try, are welcome to contribute here. Just add your ideas to the comments section below. (aren't these online newspapers just the best?)

The best recipes will be added to the Holy Grill's menu, say the Portobello parents. The children are not so sure about any recipes that may involve carrots. Well, after all - it does take a whole village to raise a child - so Inner Springers, do your best!

The Portobello Family remind me of the Kitchen Caberet I attended many years ago. Their tribute to the White House's nutritional guidelines had me tapping my toes for days.

I understand there's been a bit of a challenge: The youngest Portobello made a little bed for the leading Carrot, and covered him with a little potholder blanket, and now he's somewhat wilted since she wouldn't allow him to be refrigerated.

Hey, Doug! Yes indeed - and now I hear that little Waltie is practicing magic tricks for the next show. Rich has drawn the line at the use of the saw which he hadn't known Waltie had borrowed to saw one of his sisters in half. This was discovered when Karen ran to find out what all the screaming was about upstairs. Luckily Waltie had only started to saw through the cardboard box his sister was lying in. It all worked out, as we shall see in the follow-up report!

Did you know that Rich told me he studied to be a preacher? He lost interest when he met Karen of course.
I hear he does wonderful slow roasted broccoli on a bed of cabbage. I loved the carrot swishing it's top for us. Can hardly wait to see that magic show.

I imagin a wilted carrot is easier to catch than the Gingerbread man. But if it isn't too late for the little guy, try putting it in icewater to control fever, and then let's all send our healing energy. Maybe it will work.

I've just passed on Hans' advice to the children, and they may have taken it overboard (well, not overboard for children) - I hear there's now a change in Captain Carrot that borders on the religious. Apparently the cafe is not named "The Holy Grill" for nothing.

Rich and Karen are setting limits on the number of vegetable resurrection experiments allowed, at least from the cafe's stock.

btw - I'm half thinking about taking part-time employment at the Holy Grill myself. Think about the ad we could put out: "Slow food, slowly grown and even more slowly prepared by slow Grandma." lol - Maybe not!
