Cecily Upton, of Slow Food USA's home office in Brooklyn, brought this one to my attention. She says "only in America is the choice between rent and food turned into an advertising gimmick."

Sadly I think she may be wrong that it's only in America, since our coca-colonialism is spreading worldwide.

Well, BK isn't exactly the master of great advertising, now are they?
Some days I despair at the state of the US food economy.
I think you're missing the point. This issue goes far beyond the current recession. The crassness is that BK is attempting to commercialize the plight of millions of food-insecure people, and then hits them with the double-whammy of attempting to make them believe that buying their cheap junk is the solution. it actually only exacerbates the problem because they get very near zero nutritive value from these edible foodlike substances, which then leads to rampant obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease cancer and strokes.
Does some local/sustainable/organic (etc.) food have a higher price? Yes, but one needs to consume less of it, so there is a balance. We will advance quite far in terms of our health and health care, our children's education and our culture when we look at the broader picture. Instead of concentrating on the price of good food, take a moment to examine the COST of cheap food.
Always remember the old adage - If we are what we eat, most Americans are fast, cheap and easy.
This is profoundly disgraceful of BK. Enough that I'd boycott them--except I haven't eaten their dreck on maybe 30 years.
A home-cooked meal made from fresh vegetables is ***NOT*** more expensive than the same number of calories from BK!!!!!!!!!! Besides, there are other costs to consider. Good health from the home-cooked fresh food is a bonus. The cost of doctor visits and prescription drugs multiplies the cost of the meal ten times in the end! You call that a bargain?
I am so disgusted!
