"green" groceries - a visit to Brattleboro, Vermont

Well, the sun finally came out, and the snow melted. This morning looked like a perfect day for a little road trip, so we ended up at the Brattleboro Food Co-op, in Brattleboro, Vt.  And what a foodie find it is! Fresh flowers, exotic ingredients, spices, herbs, coffee, organic wines, local cheeses from those award winning Vermont cheesemakers, greens galore, homemade breads, and a huge menu at the take out counter. My granddaughter loved the tulips - I chose two healthy, aromatic rosemary plants to pot up at home.

It was a grand day, and I hope you get to visit Brattleboro sometime!

Great story and terrific pictures. I used to travel through Brattleboro to get to the school I attended in Putney. That was in another life.

Nice pictorial & essay. I love Cabot cheese, buy it at the local store every week. In fact, I made a sauce with it this afternoon.

Hey j r - we don't have a store like this in SW NH, which is why we went to Vermont - only an hour away, and a real treat the Coop is!

Hi Barb - thanks very much. The cheese at the co-op is mostly from those wonderful small farms around Vermont. Someday I hope to take a cheese tour - found the map on the State of Vermont website.

What a wonderful photo essay of a a subject I love...eating! Those cheeses look absolutely divine...what a great little place this Green Coop is! I love Brattleboro...small town with urban atmosphere...thriving art community. I love the Gallery Walks the first Fridays of every month...where they give you a map of galleries, artists and shows that are showing new work or having performances. The Chelsea Royal Diner is a great place to go for breakfast.

Hi Elizabeth - I went to the Chelsea Royal Diner when my daughter was in college nearby! Today we went to ...hummm...somewhere Indian.
The Co-op is an amazing place - and those cheeses and all those green, green, organic vegetables and greens just make me smile.

I used to work the nyc greenmarkets for many years while in college. its a network of open air markets that sell only local goods. it includes the famous union square greenmarket.

Oh, what a dream, Joseph! I've seen many pictures of the city's markets and it looks exciting and invigorating - those big city markets are incredible. Hope sometime you'll write about it!

Thanks Kyra - I would've grabbed you to come along but....a tad out of the way! That little girl is a whirlwind these days - and a charmer. At the Co-op she smiled at the men in the meat department and said with a wave "Hi" and they dissolved in smiles. She has a sweet, clear little voice that just makes you laugh.
