This bread tastes even better than it looks!!I also love this recipe for it's simplicity, 5-10 minute prep time, and the almost endless flavor possibilities from using different varietals of beer.
Ingredients
1 bottle (12 oz.) beer, at room temperature, unopened
3 cups all-purpose flour
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
3 tablespoons firmly packed light brown sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
Preparation
Preheat oven to 375°F.
Grease a 9-by-5 inch loaf pan.
In a large bowl, stir together the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Open the beer, and add it all at once to the flour mixture....it will foam up.
Stir briskly until combined, but not too much! ...the batter should be slightly lumpy.
Pour into the greased loaf pan, and drizzle the melted butter over the top of the batter.
Bake until the top is crusty and golden brown, about 35-40 minutes.
Allow the bread to rest in the pan for about 10 minutes, and then turn out onto a rack.
Best served warm, in thick slices.
Makes one loaf.
Enjoy!

Goes great with stews, soups, or just warm with lots of butter.
Can't wait to try this since I always seem to be out of bread with no way to go to the store.
Yes. Margarine will work as well...but butter may provide a slightly crisper texture on the top crust.
And yes, a can of beer is fine. ha ha ha
Let me know how it turns out!
I gave you a 10; great pics, story, and above all, delicious bread!
Amanda, I typically use darker brews, but the bread is just as good with lighter ales. You can change the flavor dramatically using different types. I subscribe to the theory that the better the beer, the better the bread.
Oh now I looked back up at the comments and see that you say its good with at Stout. Fantastic, I'm partial to very dark heavy brews. When the temperature drops back out of the 100's I'll be trying this!
Vitamins & a buzz

I just posted this same recipe, only I use Self-Rising flour instead of All Purpose.
This is a great bread for people who work and want have freshly baked bread with their dinner. Simple and tasty.
I just have to come up off that bottle of beer. Yikes.
