I try to steer clear of stating my politcal preferences on Gather. Frankly, I'm not fully committed to any party or person because so many have been disappointing.
No matter how the political winds change around us, most of my family members and friends typically choose the same candidates or positions. We are all in similar situations so having the same perspective makes sense. My son fit right into this pattern of thinking. Even when he challenges us, he usually falls into the "group".
Mind you, there is no peer pressure for everyone to "think the same". My daughter soon realized this and developed her own very unique political perspectives. At eight years old, she also researches her position and offers valid facts to back up her choices. She amazes me!
While I may not always agree with her decisions, she always presents a rational argument for her point of view. I've learned quite a bit about political tolerance and progression because she is very opinionated :)
Now that we have a daughter with such as personalized point of view, I'm also learning to accept the opinions of others better. While I may not always agree, I can certainly agree to disagree and allow someone else their opinion. Heck, I might even learn something new once I step outside myself!
It's amazing what our children teach us, isn't it?

I still have a rather sour taste in my mouth over a recent experience here on gather - re the health reform.
