Advice for the College Freshman

In less than a week, the fall semester will be starting. I am teaching a section of our Freshman Seminar course for the sixth time. I am always looking for interesting advice for my students.

What do you wish you had known when you went to college?

What good advice did you receive that you wish you had heeded?

I think just to savor the experience... It's a great time and you'll never get it back. Enjoy having friends, learning... Don't rush it!

I was told to take a class every term that didn't apply to your major..things like those 1-2 credit classes that get you to try new things. That's how I got hooked on yoga, got to try out some flips on a trampoline, throw my own pottery and learn how to take a better picture! Do something totally unique and different..it's the best time in your life to do it!

Great advice, Allison. I took my first photography class (darkroom/black and white) through our College of Architecture. I was the only non-architect in the class!
