I know it's the week-end and all workers in this world should have a time for solitude and down time, but I'm afraid that may not be in store for you. It seems Gather is going through once again the labor of birth and all hands need to be on board to bring forth "a new and updated version of Gather to fruitation". Through the night I have received frantic emails from your loyal followers and wanted to share their anxieties.

Good morning Faith, Carolyn and Bob,
I managed to post my Head for the Hills photo essay yesterday afternoon and then got locked out of Gather again. I CANNOT ACCESS THE SITE AT ALL!
Could one of you please place a comment on my article to the effect that I am locked out again and will respond to comments as soon as Gather allows me access.
And could someone please inform Gather that I am but a voice crying (sobbing, even) in the wilderness.

Faith,
I got onto Gather for 60 seconds then was locked out completely for hours. Now only some images will load.
Yes, it's all my fault. Gather had a melt down. But what a fun way to shut down the site!
I went back to the article moments ago and posted two comments in reply to a late comer. We garnered 250 comments!
It was a hoot!
Tom has an article up on Gather about people experiencing all sorts of problems, and Laurun has an article as well on the same topic.
Hopefully, they'll sort it out soon.

Friends,
sorry I can't get there this evening to finish off the V-Day article chat, seems they are having problems on site. And late last night and this morning, while commenting on the article it felt like I was typing in mud. I totally blame Magi's erotic comment images for gumming up the whole site! Those were too hot, right?
Hope to see you all tomorrow, I'm going dark for tonight.
Faith

Dear Magi,
This must be very tiresome for you mate. The warning about the troubles on the welcome gather page is gone so I'm guessing most are no longer experiencing the problem. I'm certainly fully back complete with all the piccies that were invisible last night. Make sure you've given the old machine a good re-boot up its cpu, clear your cookies and temp internet files, and keep trying.

Magi,
I am in that same boat here at home. I was okay at work, and read your piece and Bob's . But here at home I just checked and cleared caches and reboot and still no gather.

Tom posted an update article saying to clear out your cache and that they had repaired the servers that had unlinked so I thought all was well but no. I did get a quick reply from Chuck at support earlier but now that I am faced with nothing at home for the weekend that makes me grumpy. So another email to support is in order for me.
sigh.
Faith~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bob,
I could access Gather at work but now at home, nope, nothing, I reset everything, rebooted everything, cleared caches, as Tom suggested, nothing. I sent Chuck at support a nice but terse email, saying that I longed for the old days at Gather when we were booted out for hours, not days! ha! And I told Magi that it was all HIS fault for f**king up Gather with all those erotic images on the Val Day article. He's a bad boy and we are all paying the price.....
hugs,
faith

Dear Friends:
Yay! What a magnificent sight the home page is with true talent yet again being featured! There's this hilarious photo essay by some bloke in Western Australia who goes round on his bike taking piccies of the country side. He's really very clever and I recommend to you all that you take a squiz. Congratulations again Magi!
And I say that just as another northern town is submerged here today thanks to bizarre rainfalls. Mackay, where we lived for a few years when Dale was wee, received a third of its annual rainfall in four hours yesterday and is just a trifle damp today. Wayne had to go on air (from the safety of his town of Bundaberg) for hours last night to broadcast to the good but flooded citizens of Mackay. The ABC where he works is the government broadcaster and therefore always provides local content during natural disasters. He loved having old listeners call to say gidday, but as he's the brekky announcer in Bundaberg, he was a tadge exhausted by the end of it. Again I am grateful we have no river in Redcliffe.
Faith, I have no doubt that if Magi weren't such a loony pervert none of the gather problems would exist. There we were being so ladylike and sweet and pure and he had to go on and on about satanic f##king. Just typical! LMAO! I truly hope both you and Magi are soon back on board. It's simply not the same without you.

Bob,
Minutes ago Gather let me in long enough to post two comments on my Head for the Hills article and then to go to the front page and actually see that this was featured there. Then the kiss of doom - I am totally locked out yet again. Clearing the cache and so forth makes no difference at all.
Blame the devils, not me ... I was but an innocent bystander at the party. On the other hand, let's blame Tom Gerace - spelt Mot Ecaregm, backwards.
Please do leave a comment on the article - that I've been locked out again ... or that I fell at the Battle of Raucous Drift, winning a Victoria Cross, in repelling the Zulus who had commandeered Doctor Who's Tardis.

Bob - can you get on Gather??? Happy Valentine's Day !!! Salud, Mariana~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, Carolyn, at least you and Bob are on Gather.
Thank you very much, my friend. My article on the Gather front page was the very last thing I saw on Gather...then just blank screens. And I've run out of things to try on this end. Yes, it's all my damned fault, as you all rightly point out, that Gather crashed because of all the sinning on Valentine's Day. But it was sin and be happy for at least two days. I should have known Mr Beelzebub would extract a price for that. When I get to Heaven I'll make sure that he has to listen to me at bagpipe practice ... to hell with the harps and harpies!
I couldn't believe my ears when I heard the news about the enormity of the rainfall. Currently, the Oz east and west coasts are chalk and cheese regarding weather. Thankfully, we're experiencing an extended cool spell. A much needed one!
I do hope that Faith and I can get back on Gather soon. It really is poor that we and others cannot.
Magi
Dear Friends:~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
..if bagpipe recitals are the wages of sin, i'm on the straight and narrow from this moment forward, swear to God.
I went and added your further apology to your thread Magi. Sadly the lockout seems to have reduced your usual readership somewhat. Hopefully most can catch up tomorrow. But I do fear Faith may be right and that Gather won't be paying overtime to their technical whizzes over the weekend. The potential loss of weekend revenue should be enough to have them digit-out and working like beavers to get this bollocks fixed.
Anyway, I'll cross my fingers (legs are always crossed so no change there..) and hope for the best for you locked-out lovelies.
Carolyn
Carolyn,
Hell hath no fury like a learner throttling bagpipes!
From the email I've just sent you all, you will have gathered that I was on Gather until I tried to post a comment on Bob's Tarot reading article, whereupon Gather promptly ungathered me by locking me out yet again.
Tom will attend bagpipe recitals in hell ... recitals by tortured souls torturing the tartan octopi. It's that, I said to Mr Beelzebub, or there'll be no more damned Sin and be happy VD articles in future. Mr B. wrote Tom's name in the Infernal Damnation of Bagpipes recitals book.
Friends, I got onto Gather, responded to all the comments on my Head for the Hills article and then disaster. I typed this into the comment box on Bob's article regarding the Tarot reading:
Bob, you do have an interesting life ... never a dull moment with you! What is the red book about? Plant SIX cabbages. Don't worry about the degree - you are life's graduate!
Ten stars from me for an interesting read ... and I don't mean Tarot cards, either.
I hit the post button ... and Gather spat the dummy. I'm totally locked out yet again. Was that on the cards?
I will contact Mr Beelzebub about this and tell him to reserve a hot place for Tom.
So, as you can see, Chuck....we have some pretty serious Gatherolics who are going through some severe cases of withdrawal right now. Please help solve their problems so once more we can party hard on Gather together! Maybe you should hire some of Magi's Angels to come and create Miracles.
Magi and all,
I've just got up and tried again and no such luck as far as problems solved. Gather is still a never never land for me. Like Magi, I think I pushed my way in once or twice last night, but comment posting was blitzed and then moving to another page put me right back out of things. Bob, do they shut down Boston for President's day? If so, I'll be blanked out until Tuesday, darn the luck.
I'll blast off another email to my good friend Chuck and then try to find a life LOL!!! I may even have to read this weekend....which considering I've bought some 10 new books since christmas, it needs doing. Oh and that housecleaning. sheesh.
Angels and Hugh on the pillows down under. Bob, go take some pictures for us!
hugs,
Here is what to do:
Clean your cache on your computer - your browser history - then restart. If it doesn't work the first time, do it a second time.
Gather had a problem with images displaying - I was getting error 404 - page not found - or under construction for nearly 24 hours. A few times, I was able to get on but images were not displaying.
Chuck had emailed me from the outside email I had sent him and he gave me the above advice.
The first time, I did remove my cookies, as well. Then I had to sign in again to Gather and also to Earthlink. I don't think it is necessary to clean out your cookies, but to be safe, you might want to. Just know, that if you do remove your cookies, you will have to re-sign in the first time.
I guess not many people will make their 3,000 points this month. I hope we all get some kind of point bonus like at least 300 points or more as I usually try to rack up between 150 and 200 a day, only because I'm not working now, so I can and have the time to devote to all on here. Once I start working, I'll be lucky to see the emails I might get.
In the past, when Faith and I were locked out two weeks ago, Chuck was most helpful and got us back in twelve hours. I'm sure the Gather techies are working this week-end to get everyone back online. Reread Kathryn's comment, it may prove helpful to you in the future.
I'm glad you are once more back on Gather and can read and post articles and comments.
I see you, like so many of us, have outside contacts with a lot of people. I think it's what helps keep us sane when this kind of thing happens.
ART AND WRITING FOR 2008.
Just got another email from faith and she's done everything Kathryn told her and she is still locked out. It's 12 Midnight in Perth, so I suspect magi has gone to bed. I did talk with him over Skype this morning and he's hangin' in there...hasn't lost his wonderful sense of humor despite the frustrations.
I'm off to e-mail those I can also.
I've just had an emergency visit from my son to help get me back on the internet. KEO sent me an email with this info, and in my brave but challenged manner, I decided to unplug and replug my cable modem and router myownself. Wrongo, faithy. I knocked myself way out of the internet. So Joester responded to my whinging and crying and found a new router and played around with my machine and got me back online. he did say I had to contact mediacom, which I have done, to have them fix it from their side. That may take who knows how long. Joey found that when my computer was sent searching for Gather it was being directed erroneously to a site called www.bostonsandboxers.com, which it seems sells boxer and boston terrier puppies! ha! now I can blame Tonia and Deb.
at least i am online for now.
So, as yet, faith isn't back on Gather. Magi should be waking up pretty soon...we'll see what's up with him.
Guess someone came by and gave me a DB1 for some reason. Funny, I didn't think I offended anyone with this article....but then again, one never knows who might have a hair up their ass. Blessings, DB1'er and may your life be filled with joy so you don't have time to downrate articles.
Mr Beelzebub is being kept informed and is taking names ... certain personages responsible for the debacle will, in due course, be attending off-key bagpipe recitals in the burning pits.
I was in New York's Grand Central Terminal on my way to visit friends in Connecticut. I had never taken the trip before and was wondering if I needed to switch trains in Stamford.
Walking to the train, I saw the conductor and asked, "Do I need to change?"
"No," he replied immediately. "You're fine the way you are. Your bag matches your shoes and your earrings are the same color as your outfit. Very coordinated!"
Elizabeth,
Good afternoon! I am reaching out to you today because you had previously reported to us symptoms of a technical issue that affected the Gather website last week, and I wanted to provide you with an update on this. Gather.com had an issue with our external public DNS & image caching providers. This led to a series of problems for many of our members â€" some members were not able to load all images on Gather, while others were not able to access any Gather webpage at all. The root cause of this issue was due to an incorrect DNS configuration change on Thursday afternoon (EST), February 14, 2008. Although the problem was discovered and a fix implemented very quickly (within 15 minutes), it took approximately 72 hours for the fix to propagate through the entire Web. That meant that certain members were able to access Gather before others. At this point we are not aware of any cases of members not being able to access Gather. I want to assure you that we have taken the necessary steps to make sure that this issue never happens again.
Thank you so much for your patience throughout this ordeal. If you are still having trouble loading certain images on Gather, this is normal and should fix itself soon. If you are still unable to access Gather at all, let me know right away. Have a great week!
Best,
Chuck McGuire
