Over the years, I have read many books about the King Arthur legend. This book takes the various strands of the myth and weaves side stories from them.

One, a lot of fun to read, took the tale into the American West with the slang one would expect from that time and place.

With each story, the reader remembers more of the legends... and how some of their elements contradict each other.

Since these were all short pieces, the reader can find different voices that hit different chords.

Fun.

I think the greatest literary work on the King Arthur legend was "The once and future king" by T.H. White. It is so graceful, memorable, but also so tragic.

I really don't know that much about the King Arthur legend, but I have heard of this book, as well as the one Chris W mentioned. Maybe it's time to read some, huh?

thanks Christine. by the way, "The Once and Future King" is actually a trilogy. The first book is "The Sword in the Stone"- remember the Disney kid's movie? The other two books get much more adult and much darker. But it is so insightful and timeless that you just can't stop reading. Despite the fact that it is like 900 pages. Why and how do human hopes and dreams become blighted? Why can we never quite finish what we start? It is rich in that elegiac, "Camelot" quality.
