Read 50 Books in a Year ~ 2009 So Far

Pam H's recent post reminded me that I didn't post an initial article for this endeavor. So here it is.

In 2008, I fell short of my goal by 5 novels and only read 45 total. I am going to try very hard to make it to 50 this year.

Here's the list of books I've read so far in 2009:

Deadly Night - Heather Graham
Deadly Harvest - Heather Graham
Deadly Gift - Heather Graham
Cross Country - James Patterson
Heat Lightening - John Sandford
The Death Dealer - Heather Graham
Missing - Lisa Jackson
Book of the Dead - Patricia Cornwell
The Reversing Hour - Scott Faerchild
Wicked Game - Lisa Jackson & Nancy Bush (just finishing up)
The Agency - Ally O'Brien (will start tonight)

I'm about 25 pages shy of completing book number 10 for the year.

For those of you participating in the group, how far along are you in 2009?

I like your choice of authors. I've also read all the ones on this list. I'm not in any group, but I do read a lot. I don't think I read 45 last year, maybe, but I don't think so.

I am nowhere near you. When I read your list it makes me realize I need 48 hour days instead of 24.
I read "Heat Lightening" loved it. Interesting list here.. I may have to look up some of these titles.

I started out good ,5 books in January ,5 in February ,and then only one so far this month. I tackled a big one ,i had to lay down for a while!! 11 so far.

I'm doing well anymore to read a book in two weeks. Right now I'm reading Gimme More by Liza Cody. It's a British novel about an over-the-hill girlfriend of some of the 60s biggest rock stars. I gave up on Patricia Cornwell several years ago. Was this one pretty good?

I was disappointed in Book of the Dead. Cornwell just isn't as good as she used to be.

I love reading your lists of books Marianne. It gives me ideas since we both like the same kind of books it seems. I have Deadly Harvest to read next, is it good? I also have Alibi Man by Lisa Hoag, have you read it?

Patricia Cornwell has been becoming one of my least favorite authors after her last few books. Yes, Book of the Dead kind of sucked (I knew it was going to which is why it took me so long to finally pull it from my stack of books to be read). There was a good story burried in all the narcissistic and uneeded drival from Kay. Not sure why that story wasn't the focus of the novel though, lol. I have Scarpetta in my book stack also.

Pam, you mean Tami Hoag. I read it when it was released on hard cover. I love her stuff and don't remember not liking it. Her next one is due out in April I think. I have another Heather Graham in my book stack. I don't know what the story is tho offhand. Those "deadly" books are a trilogy and the harvest one is book #2. You might want to read the other one first.

Oh Kat, when I decide to reread the Twilight books and The Lovely Bones again this year (gearing up for the 4th quarter movie releases), I will count them.

You've read some good mysteries there, Marianne. I'm not in your group but I've read around 60 books so far this year. This month has been a little slow and I've not read as much as usual.

You are ahead of me in the reading too. I am commenting here to help you get that last 30 points you need. I am working towards another gift card to Borders. My all time favorite store.
since the first of the year I've been in a reading frenzy...doing about a book a day..so I am well past 50 already. Right now I'm reading The Keepsake by Tess Gerritsen, it's the book to read in March for a group I belong to on Shelfari. Shelfari is a great place to find new authors to read in the genre you like. I've been introduced to some really great reads through there.
Anywho...always interesting to see what others are reading.

I started a book last year ... It's very good but I can't find time to just sit and read (unless I cut down on Gathering). I'm actually reading 3 novels. One is, oh what's that title? ... 12 Caesars by Seutonius (I think that's his name). Pearl Harbor by Newt G. And story about Mr. Monk in paperback (which can hardly be called a novel but it is a book.

Almost inished with Pearl Harbor, almost half way through 12 Ceasars, and Monk .. well, it's hard goin but I am going to finish it.

Good goal! I *love* Patricia Cornwell! Try to find more of her books. And if you like her, you'll also like Kathy Reichs, who does medical examiner work in Montreal.

Hi Dorine. I've read everything Patricia Cornwell has written over the years except for her latest release, Scarpetta (which I'll read soon). She's gone downhill in recent years.

I've read a couple on your list, but when you mentioned Tami Houg, who was recommended, by our son, of all people, I found I really like her writing. I'm a huge fan of the libraries.

Hoag is another one of those former romance writers turned main-stream thriller/romance. Her early stuff is a bit too Harliquen for me tho I do love her steamy men characters, lol.

I should be starting book #12 today.

Marianne, while visiting FL last week, my niece took me to a used book store. All paperbacks are .50 cents and hardbacks $1. I got a Wal Mart plastic bag full of books for $9. I got lots of Lisa Jackson and Sandra Brown. I like both of them. I have a Tami Hoag to read but right now I am reading Twilight.
