I was taking a break from the difficult reading I've been doing about the Chinese Cultural Revolution... whew.
This book is light fantasy. It was SO much fun. The tension builds and builds - this section of Scotland might or might not have been an island (perhaps Avalon) that doesn't show up on maps dating back to the 1600s.
It was an amazing book. The strangeness grew and grew, then subsided again.
Where were they? Had they become part of another time and place? Had they returned to the folklore that was common in Scotland? What was with that fog? Why have all the clocks stopped?
The characters never know... but will you?
VERY satisfying read - a bit twilight zone, a bit of fantasy, very enjoyable.
