Read 50 Books in a Year - My List So Far

I recently joined this group on Gather because I do typically read somewhere around 50 to 60 novels in a year. I never kept exact track though.

I sat down this morning to try to compile a list of what I have read so far for 2008. I know I am missing some and that will put me at a disadvantage in the competition. It's just too hard to remember them all when I give all the paperback copies away as I finish reading them.

Here's the list:

I think I am missing 4 or 5 more paperback, but I simply cannot remember what they were. I'll just go with these and see how many more I can get through this year.

Lindy, there are nights where my eyes are too tired too and I don't pick up a book. But most nights, I read myself to sleep for at least an hour or more.

I've read quite a few books this year too. I guess I should write them all down so I know which ones that I read already. I get 5 books at the library every week or two. Most of the time I can finish the 5 up in about a week if my hubby's not home. I finished 2 within the past 2 days. I love reading.

I read on my bus ride into and from work everyday. It is relaxing and takes me away from the bus ride home. I don't read nearly that many, but I have read some good ones. My most recent read was called Rocket Boys, a wonderful book. And I am currently reading a great book called In Harm's Way.

I have the entire Vampire Chronicles Collection by Anne Rice sitting on my desk to read through, two books I am reviewing for Gather, and I don't recall how many I've read right off so far this year, quite a few I know. I've read the entire collection of John Grisham books and I think at least two for Gather, and I am only on book 3 of Anne Rice's vampire chronicles since I decided to reread those I've already read straight through so I could rad it as a series instead of individual books.

Nice list so far. I read about 215 books a year and started keeping track several years ago. I've often wondered how many books I've read in my lifetime. It's a passion with me since I first learned to read. Of course, I enjoy the reading but it's fun to see the numbers, too.

Marianne, earlier this year you inspired me to read more books. I used to devour books at the rate of 3-4 a week but now I find that I become so absorbed in them that I let other things go - I love to read so much that I have no self-control! Sadly...

But - I MUST read. So I am currently reading Confederates In The Attic by Tony Horwitz which I am so engrossed in that I must hide it from myself during the day or I will get NOTHING done!

I read a lot too, but for whatever reason I have not kept track of my books this year...in the past I have made a list, but I have gotten out of the habit, I guess.

I wrote the whole thing, that's super gift enough !!! All you have to do is order it and then wait patiently for the mail. I already did the hard part - toiling and toiling.

(actually it was fun fun fun but don't tell anybody - too many people think you have to SUFFER for art - yeah right)

I have no idea how many books I read in a year. Quite a few I suppose. I read quite a bit of non-fiction. Sometimes I enjoy rereading the classics. At present I am reading Bhawana's lovely book about Gandhi. And of course I own the complete works of Peter Joseph Swanson which makes me a high brow.

Good for you, Marianne! I heard a stat that about 50% of Americans reported that they did not read even ONE book last year. This is beyond tragic.....a real sign of our declining culture.

I wish I could read more...I do about 2 books/month. That's not very good, but we own our own business and work a lot. I do belong to a bookclub and enjoy discussing the books with others. This month's book is "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy - incredibly depressing, but a must read for everyone, especially people in power.

I have already read more than 50 this year. I keep a little book diary/journal and keep track of the title, author, and publishing date.

I enjoyed one that is on your list, What the Dead Know, but I haven't gotten to the others.

I read so much that I live for the used book sales at the libraries. A few weeks ago, there was one that for the last hour, you got two bags full of books for $1!!!
I belong to that group as well Marianne. I have been keeping track of my title in my little Book Lovers Diary that I have. Not sure where I am at for the year, probably around 15 or so.

You're way ahead of me. I used to read about 2 books a week, but that was before Gather. The reading will get more attention now because I can do it on the front porch in my rocking chair.

I just picked up Quicksand. I now have three books waiting to be read. I am reading Duma Key right now and I am almost finished. I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have a book to read.

I haven't read any of these. I'm not doing the 50 books in a year this year. Graduate courses are taking up most of my reading time. I think it's a good challenge, too. I know Christine Zibas is also doing it. You all should compare notes!

I picked up John Sandford's Phantom Prey today, Amanda. I have about 10 books waiting. I usually see what I am in the mood for once I finish the one I am on. I do have a copy of Sandy Knauer's (she's on Gather) book that Vicky mailed to me. I may read it next.

I have read a few this year. Our local library held a sale and I picked up 6 paperbacks for $2.50. That should hold me over for a little while. I doubt I will reach 50 books by the end of the year. I read mainly in the summer months.

I'm definitely a bibliophile. Books were my life for many years. Not so much these days, I have read very little in the last ten years - I used to devour a book a day - big difference.
Inspired by gather maybe? I have picked up a few books that I would like to read at the local thrift store and I have about five more waiting to be read.
Half fiction and half non-fiction.

I was really excited to receive 'YOU the Owners Manual' for a gather book review. Arrived today, looking forward to that one:)

I may get back to you with a question about how one of your books on the list read.

I used to read 60 to 80 books a year. For some strange reason, that's dropped way off this past year as I've stepped up with more music and visual arts activities. My right brain has taken over for the time being?

Wow, you're even more of a voracious reader than I am! I usually only read when I'm on the bus, train, or subway, so I've only gotten through about three books so far this year, maybe four. Also, I lost all my ID and my library cards, and I owe some books to the library that were destroyed in a fire which they want me to replace and I don't have the funds for that right now, so it's more difficult for me to find good stuff to read. Oh well, c'est la vie, n'est c'est pas?

I have to say I haven't read any of the books on your list. :-) Since August of 2003, I've been keeping track of all the books I read in a little journal. These days I also keep track online with Goodreads because it makes it so simple! I've always got a book in my hands and love seeing what everyone else is reading.

Finished Don't Scream and Dying Breath both by Wendy Corsi Staub. I started reading Tempting Evil by Allison Brennan last night.
That's a pretty good list of books Marianne, I usually read about a dozen books a year, and sometimes I re-read books that I have read over and over and over....some just deserve that kind of attention...

Hey...where are the reviews? Have you thought about at least giving a book a thumbs up or thumbs down? I can't read too many, so I would trust your judgment. Don't want to waste my time on a dud!

Most of my year will be spent reading graduate books. My APA style guide is already showing a lot of wear and it's only been four classes!

Geeze....now I have to figure out how many I have read. I am eaten up with curiosity now. I have read so many books and so many series that I cannot keep track of what I have read and what I have not read. Ordering books at PBS though, I can see what I have, what I have read, and look for the next in series and even have a clue as to when the next is coming out. I have read ALL of the Anne Rice books (including the beauty series), all of the Robert Jordan wheel of time series (unless one came out in the past year) All of the Pern series by McCaffrey, I have the last book waiting to read in the Southern Vampire series by Mary Janice Davidson, all of the romance vampire series by Katie MacAlister, I have read the full series so far of the Historical fiction series on Native American Indians by Michael Gear and his wife (name slips my mind at the moment). So many it makes my mind boggle just trying to remember them. ACK!

I try to line up at least 4 in a series before I start to read the. I remember having to wait YEARS for a second in series from Melanie Rawn in the early 90's I think one of the books in that series was Mageborn Traitor...I think there is still only 2 or 3 books in that series to this day.
