In this age of the Internet, snail mail has become known as, well, “snail mail"--a slow, outdated form of communication. People are even receiving and paying their bills online these days. Although technology has made communication quick and speedy, who doesn’t get nostalgic every time they open the mailbox? Wasn’t it so exciting to open it and find a neat stack of letters, purposefully written for and addressed to you?
In honor of Samara O’Shea’s For the Love of Letters, let’s bring back the idea of pen-pals! It’s time to peel your eyes from that computer monitor, flex your pen, and make some new friends.
If you’re interested in getting some new pen-pals (yes, you can have more than one), post a comment in this thread stating your interest, and send me a message with your full name and mailing address (to protect your privacy, please don’t post the address in the comment thread). Within one week, you’ll be randomly matched with three other interested Gather members.
Postcard Auditions
After receiving your three contacts, send them each a postcard from either wherever you live or your favorite vacation destination, and write a bit about yourself on the back. You have just a box full of space to impress! Once you receive postcards from the people assigned to write to you, you can decide who has impressed you the most and send a letter back. Choose one, two, or all three of them!
If you’re interested in corresponding with even more members, find out who else is interested via the comment thread.
So start practicing that handwriting, and have fun!

For all of you who have not yet given me contact information, it's not too late! Keep sending me your mailing addresses, and I'll keep making pen-pal matches.
Have fun, everyone!
I should have it by the end of this week, and then I'll be ready for pen pals! :)
