Back in May, I reviewed the book, Gilmore Girls: The Other Side of Summer. Having enjoyed that one, I recently went ahead and purchased the other books that have been written for this series. They follow the same format as the aforementioned title. The author has rewritten certain episodes of the show into book form. They are all written from Rory's point of view with her emotions and thoughts as well as what she was doing in between times when you didn't see her in the show. The authors of the books have adapted them well and you do not loose the essence and feel of these characters that we have come to love so well.
List of the books:
Like Mother, Like Daughter by Catherine Clark – adapted from the teleplays: Pilot, The Lorelais First Day at Chilton, Kiss and Tell, Rory's Dance, and Forgiveness and Stuff. This book covers the beginning of Season 1 with Rory meeting Dean (so cute), going off to start school at Chilton, and the dance.
I love you, Idiot by Cathy East Dubowski – adapted from teleplays: That Damn Donna Reed, Christopher Returns, Star Crossed Lovers and other Strangers, The Break-Up Part II, P.S. I Lo…, and Love Daisies and Troubadours. This book covers the Rory and Dean relationship through their brake-up and their reunion. And of course Lorelai's many loves.
I Do, Don't I? by Catherine Clark – adapted from the teleplays: Sadie, Sadie; Hammers and Veils; Red Light on Wedding Night; and Road Trip. This book focuses more on Lorelai's relationship with Max, their engagement, and eventual brake up. Of course Luke is in their too.
They are all fun reads and very short (meant for the YA reader). But again as I said in my previous review, if you love Gilmore Girls you will enjoy these books. Just be prepared to carry Lorelai's voice around in our head for a while and you might brake out into some random babbling and Gilmoreisms but just consider it your rite of passage into becoming a true GG fanatic. Enjoy.
