This incredible YouTube video is a “sand animation” performed by the 2009 winner of the Ukraine “Got Talent” television series, Kseniya Simonova. This 24 yr. old female artist’s prize was 1,000,000 Ukrainian hryvnia (approx. US $125,000)!
I had to do some digging to find out what the story was the "artist" was depicting since it was not in English. It's telling the story of life during WWII. A story of love and war, set amidst the turmoil of The Great Patriotic War (WWII).
Ukraine was probably the area most devastated in the war, more so than Germany. During this bloody conflict nearly one in four Ukrainians were killed. Ukraine represented almost 20 percent of all the causalities suffered during that war.
The final scene ends in 1945, with the death of Hitler and the end of a long war. The text she writes where they’re staring at the sailor’s ghost says: “You are always nearby.”
Don't miss this! It's the most incredible artform I've ever seen!
