Gideon's always doing some really nice crafts at school, and one of his more recent ones is pottery! Can you imagine them doing that so early? I think it's awesome he gets to work with kiln fired clay at his age. :)
He tells me he had to shape it himself and pinch it all around the edge with his fingers. Lots of work!

He had to glaze it twice, too.

I think he did an awesome job on his first pot. :) But then again I'm biased.

I've since been better about working in larger scales, but still am intimidated by big canvases and such too.
Thanks Phaedra!
Indeed it can, Sarah
I know, Ralph it's crazy they are doing this at so young, but for Gideon that loves art it's wonderful!
I certainly plan to, Lisa Thank you for your kind words. I'll be reading these to Gideon
Jr Yes, I'm very proud of him and his work.
Thanks Carol Gideon will be honored to hear that!
Renee Did they do them as early as kindergarten? I don't remember that age, but I don't think we worked in clay at this age.
Thanks, Angela. I never much liked clay. Now the paints? I loved those, LOL.
I don't recall doing ashtrays, Cassandra but some did faces.. maybe I did, too. It's been a while. Yes, I save all his work. I have all his school papers here in a box. Our hallway is adorned with select art and school papers Gideon has proudly hung up, and it's all safe - where it belongs. Some of his work is also in his room (like his ceramic tree - that's hung on his bedroom wall)
Thanks, Victoria. Gideon is six years old.
Please extend my congratulations to Gideon for work well done.
Thanks for photographing so well and sharing.
I remember getting to make something like that in gradeschool, can't remember what grade I was in though, it was quite a long time ago...
But then since I loved it so much when I got into hs and had the chance I took Ceramics classes. One of these days I hope I am able to have a kiln and make my own stuff.
