I chose to do this faerie picture. I would be extending the border to the edge and getting rid of the white edges. I probably will keep the sepia tones.

I had decided to utilize the grid system in order to assist me with placement and proportion. The image I'm using to copy from is only about an inch big and my canvas board is 16x20, so it's a big difference in sizes. Though I basically ignored that and changed the picture to suit my needs, lol. Bigger wings and such.
Here's my sketch after a day of work:

Here's the reference image against my sketch.

Considering I haven't really drawn in 3 years and I'm bad at human forms I guess it's an okay start. I've been redoing a lot of it and I'll probably redo more of what you see here, too.

Nik! THANK YOU! I knew something was off with the back but I couldn't place it!
Dominique mentioned her back, which can be fixed with her hair. Notice how her hair flows to create more of the curve that Dominique is speaking of. Also shading will give the indentation needed at the base of her back.
Also notice the light on her shoulders and face.
And, I know you know that this is a guide, and your style will alter the model image. It is a guide that your own individual artistic style will naturally alter.
Look at the image and flow from it without trying to be exact. Stiffness always results from trying to follow form to the letter. Notice how your drawing is more free when you have nothing to look at but what is in your mind's eye.
Put her to the side, and then draw another without her and look at the differences. Just keep the image in your mind's eye and work from there.
This will come together just fine Jennifer.
I am loving this!
Blessings ~
Your BEST Artistic FRIEND,
Rene
Rene, I had noticed that the hair would soften the back a bit, but didn't notice the lighting. The copy here is a better copy than the one I'm working with as it's much larger and easier to see.
I always try not to alter my drawings from the reference as I'm usually less informed about human forms than the artist that did the photo I'm working from, lol. Though this time I know that the wings are different (I did that intentionally) and that the face is at a more direct angle. (Not planned but I'll leave it)
Well see what happens. I've been sketching it how the ref photo is, then later redrawing it. I might continue to do that with this one.
Linda, I'm trying to do a bit more for an update but I had this hair-brained idea and that's kinda holding me up since I don't have a reference for it.
