I thought they were pretty cool, but didn't think I'd do enough with them to justify the $20 price tag. So years ago I set out to make my own set. It really didn't cost much at all to do and it was a lot cheaper than buying one!
What You Will Need:
Magazine cut out or printed words from a printer
Magnetic sheet - the thinner the better (I used one that had an adhesive on it)
Clear tape (optional)
Scissors
How To Make Them:
Take your words (I used magazine cut outs) and place them on the magnetic sheet. If your sheet is self adhesive all you need to do is to peel back the paper and expose adhesive. Lay the words out on the magnet making sure there is plenty of room to cut the words apart later. You can fill the sheet up or you can just fill up a section of it. Whatever woorks best for you.
Now, cut apart the words. Cut as straight as you can.
If you want the words protected, buy some clear packing tape. Add the words to the tape and trim the edges. Now they are protected from dirt and other things. HOWEVER the tape will yellow and discolor a bit in years. I chose to use the tape on my set. I liked how it protected the thin paper that the words were printed on.
That's it! Enjoy your new magnetic poetry kit! :)

I made my own for my classroom and we had all sorts of learning activities that they used them for, depending on what they had to work on.
Ellie, I'm just resourceful and at the time I had too much time on my hands, LOL!
Thanks JoAnne!
Thank you Luann. I liked how it could open up new venues of creativity if one should just randomly choose some words to work with. But alas, I'm not really good with poetry, lol.
Thanks Tracey and Karolyn!
Maybe I'll give this a shot. I think even I can do this.
