It's amazing how one random idea can make such a drastic change in your life
In the Museum of Paper Arts Blog today I published a really hearwarming piece written by - and about - the experience an artist friend, Melody Nunez who last year was going about her normal daily life and now not only has one marathon under her belt, she's preparing for another.
The moment that changed her life and got her off the couch and onto the training circuit happened when she opened a mailer from a group called "Team In Training" which is a fundraising branch of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
When she saw that one of the events that she could participate in was the Honolulu Marathon she experienced one of those paradigm shifts that is so dramatic that you remember it forever.
- walked over 500 miles to prepare for the event,
- raised $5000
- finished every step of the 26.2 miles of the Honolulu marathon,
- grew as a person
- and grew even more in the eyes of people like me who know and admire her
Today Melody doesn't have the time she'd like for her creative side, but she is mentoring 8 new people on a team of 52 walkers and is fundraising for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society once again.
She says
And on June 17, 2006 she will walk the Mayor's Midnight Sun Half Marathon in Anchorage, Alaska!"Growth, new experiences, setting goals and meeting them, laughing and loving and giving, connecting with others in kindness in this mad world - that's what it's all about, isn't it?"
