That's the funny thing about men, they can look like a steaming pile of crap but still think they can get some supermodel or porn star...yeah, in their DREAMS! Be careful of sites like that, many of them are married men looking to stray...of course that can be said for most men in the bars, too. Don't pay them any mind, you are a beautiful woman that the right man will be lucky to have. I know that isn't much consolation at this point, of course. I hope you find what you're looking for, hun, in the most unexpected of times and places. Those are the best ones! :)

I need to disclaim myself...SOME men are like that, not all. It just seems most of them join matchmaking sites...they're like idiot magnets or something!

Just count yourself lucky that you are able to tell from their profiles that they are jerks and don't have to waste any effort on them. There really are good men out there looking for nice ladies.Think of all the guys who get dumped because they are "too nice". What the heck is that all about?

I agree David, that's why I added the "some men" disclaimer...you know, the ones sitting at home alone joining matchmaking sites.

I sometimes read the personals for a good laugh. Come on now...We know voluptuous doesn't mean just "well endowed. It means overweight. And the men who say, I'm told I look younger than I am, really mean, when I look in the mirror I think I look like a stud. There really are not a lot of thin and fit men over the age of 50 just as there are not a lot of thin women at that age. What is wrong with being the natural age one is, if they are taking care of their health? I admit, I weigh more than I should but I am fit. I wouldn't fit into the thin mold. Who wants to?

The reason those men on match.com are not with a woman, is that they are not the kind of man , a woman wants. Those sites are not your best option. There may be a few decent guys listed there but for the most part...friends of mine who've used the site have called it...a wasteland of players and bums. yikes...you do not need that !

When I separated from my husband of 22 years, I thought I'd be alone for a long time. I'm not a great beauty. I was not thin.(5.4 and 135 lbs) I was 41 and had two young boys and was working two jobs to pay the bills. Yet some how...men found me interesting enough , and asked me out. I was ..amazed. The men who found me interesting, were not taking my measurements or counting my gray hairs or laugh lines. ( well, one did ask my IQ!). They were interested in my intellect, wit, talents, morals, and yes...my looks...which they found appealing...despite imperfections. Good men...don't care only about ...looks. (Players..do!)

Don't you dare pander to the lowest common denominator! Give yourself more credit. Live and work, and follow your interests..and the kind of men you'll want to be with...will find you .

A gentleman friend recently told me :

Charles, I am glad that creature you posted is being kicked out. When I look at these profiles on match.com I feel like getting out a push broom and easing them all into the trash. One guy was so bold to say "I like a girl with perky breasts that does have a lot to say"! yikes! Some one need to open their eyes and make them realize that not all women sit around making themselves pretty hoping to land a man!

Gosh Beth, that sounds like the kind of guy who also thinks the date rape drug is a useful tool!

Don't worry, they aren't getting any dates! Only wise ones like me get the dates. Don't just pick on guys...I've dated women who said they were average sized, and their butt was twice as wide as mine! Maybe that is average in America now! ~lmao~ I agree with Denise...intellect, personality, and just overall chemistry is the most important thing when meeting others. Any guy who talks about sex or your tits before he really knows you very well is not the guy for you unless you just want to get laid! Beth, sorry to inform you, but God did give me a dick, but it only gets used on special occasions!

p.s. I'm a very good cook, do laundry, clean house, a handyman around the house, self employed structural engineer, and a paid on call fire/rescue worker. I have a handsome 16 year old son, and a vivacious 11 year old adopted daughter from China. I have a ranch house on an acre in the suburbs, and a pool, and a hottub. Hobbies include fixing up things, golf, bike riding, and spending lots of quality time with my kids. My son and I just finished restoring an old 1960's boat this past year. Why did I get divorced? I didn't..she died in a car crash. Still looking for another good woman. I like the online sites, but too many folks lie on both sides of the isle.

And I'm easy going on the eyes too! ~laugh~ I've dated some really hot women, but they just haven't have the oomph I'm looking for. Most of the other ones are decent enough but have massive baggage. Don't give up ladies...there truly is someone for everyone...just takes time to find them...We aren't all pigs....

Wow, Dave, where have you been? I've been wanting someone like you forever.......lol.......I guess there is always two sides to this issue, men lie just like women lie, and you just have to be careful. In my case, I can't really say that I am looking, because it is seldom that I realize that I am alone. My kids keep me busy, I work full time and with my family around me, I sometimes forget that I am a single mommy. It would be nice to have someone around for me, but I have to look out for my kids, and sometimes, men just want the woman and forget about the kids. But like you said, there is truly someone for everyone.

What kind of girl needs a guy like that, so shallow, all he's looking for is some nooky, guys looking for a relationship are usually looking for intelligent, free thinking ladies and that are healthy and loving and caring,,,I'd hate to pay these girls' med bills in a decade or so,,,,,you keep looking maybe not in the places you're looking now, you will find your man!

I work with a bunch of dorks on match.com and eharmony.com, they kill me with their unrealistic notions. The first step they need to take is get outta their mama's basement. If you have a moment check out www.doclove.com, some of them believe in that nonsense too. Doclove tells these dopes that women want to be treated like property, that the reason these idiots are still single well into their 30's is because they place women on a pedestal and women don't really respect that.
BTW you can buy doclove's book for a mere 100 bucks.

Beth, a very interesting article. I agree that there can be a terrible double-standard in the online dating world. I read somewhere that women mislead most often about their weight and their age, and men mislead most often about their height and income. Pretty sobering. But on a brighter note, James B. has given us the quote of the week:
