          Why? Please just tell me why you think it's necessary to keep mass e-mailing everyone?  I am going to follow the wisdom of a fellow gatherite and delete from my contacts anyone who sends out mass e-mails.  I love my contacts. There is a reason I am connected to you. Some make great comments, others write fantastic articles, or publish beautiful photography or artwork.  If I want to read something you've published, I will. 

          I, like most people on Gather, have a real life outside of Gather which requires my attention.  I come on here to read and share like any other member.  If I miss something that my be of interest to me, I'm likely to find it as I comb through the comments of my dearest friends, who often have similar likes, interests and views to me.  We're likeminded.  So please. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!! Stop Mass E-mailing me or I will have to delete you from my contact list.

Walter, I used to just delete them, now instead of disconnecting from most of them I just block them from being able to send me anymore private messages.

I don't quite understand the purpose of the mass "I just wrote an article" emails. We can see when one of our connections wrote and article, and we already get a notice. I just delete-I don't disconnect.

Do any of you even know the people sending the mail? The ones I have blocked so far are either not on my list, or I dont know how they got there.

I'm notified by individual E-mails and don't need mass mailings. I'm not about to copy a link just to see something someone else wants me to see...along with tons of others. And you never have to worry about me mass mailing. I'm too friggin' stupid to even figure it out...and am too buy reading and commenting on other's works when I'm not creating myself.

Delete does work, but I'm often reading something interesting that I really wanted to read, and then all the sudden I see I have a new mail. I can't resist stopping reading the article and checking the mail. When it's just a mass mailing I get quite annoyed. Besides, it does not increase my chance of reading that article at all -- it just distracts me from my reading time. And people have said this a million times, but the mass mailers are never the people who have a real relationship with me -- like I read them, they read me.

I agree with everyone who says they just delete. If it continues from anyone specific, I may consider the blocking option.

Well, I've just used the block feature for the first time! Sad, but true. Didn't take long did it? Well, I'll give that a try and see if that doesn't solve my inundated mailbox. Who says it's lonely at the top???? I HAVE TONS OF FRIENDS (and a lot, lot, lot of people I don't chat with EVER.)

I'm not crazy about the mass private messages either. I have done it myself a few times though so I try to not let it bother me unless someone is "wearing it out". Thennnnn....I usually disconnect. The ones that really bother me are the ones that I NEVER talk to...they never reply to my stuff....and yet they send me notices to look at their stuff.

Maybe I'll try the block feature next time. When you block someone, can they tell that you've blocked them?

Kyra, If someone is a "regular" in my day, either that I read them or see them on my threads, I'm not likely to disconnect or even block, but so many of these folks aren't in my day to day dealings on Gather. So many of them are not even American. If it is one of my friends, I'm sure there is a purpose outside of points that they are trying to rack up. I'm sure there is something I will probably want to see, but come on already. If you or Travis or a few others say, check this out... I'm likely to see what the hub bub is about. If you say, you have a new friend you'd like to be warmly welcomed. I can do that also. There are those who actively participate and there are those who only want you to comment as to earn them points the lazy way. I've learned I can rack up a mess of points saying hi to a few friends easier than I can , researching my daily articles sometimes.

I can't stand the mass emails and just hit delete most of the time. I myself have sent ONE out and that was for a group invite. But some people I get them daily or weekly its annoying! Great post Walter.

Bravo Walter! I too am getting very sick of the mass emailings about articles posted. I see my connections articles and photos first. I comment on those that jump out at me. So far I too have simply been deleting the emails w/o reading them. Perhaps I too will have to use the block feature if this keeps up.

I think we all have this same problem Walter - I get tons of them a day - didn't think of blocking the worst offenders - hmm something to consider... thanks for the suggestion.

I totally agree here. There are a few that do not bother me. When someone first gets featured, or when someone enters the first chapters contest, when I know them. Those ones are alright. It is the ones that send 10 mailings about a first chapters book, UGH, ok, I've seen it. If I did not comment or read it, I was not that interested. Get a clue...
