So does our economy now live or die based on how many people stomp, push, and crush each other on Black Friday ?
If Elmo doesn't fly off the shelf, is the apocalypse near ? Will our economic world fall out of orbit if the stores in the area aren't filled with men and women ( mostly women )willing to flatten a nun in order to get the last ________ ( fill in the blank ) ?
As we argue what the true meaning of the season is, maybe we should take a few moments to debate what it isn't. Whatever one sees as the meaning of this time of year, I contend that it is not to stage a Viking-like siege in which we storm the "Village Of Gifts" and hack our way to the counters of the village, only to return home waving our plunder high above our heads. Plunder that will, in short order, find it's way to the thrift store.

All the local tv stations are broadcasting live from stores this morning. Talk about a dazed and confused bunch !
One man's junk is another man's Black Friday treasure.
The media coverage is nothing more than the television stations trying to influence us to patronize the companies that buy advertising time on those same stations.
As a lady said yesterday, " Most of it will at the Goodwill by spring, so why bother ?"
We raked leaves and did general yard maintenance.
The Christmas stampede is so nostalgic, isn't it ?
No malls is good malls.
Judging by the faces of the store employees they showed on tv this morning, my guess is that they would sleep.
This is the current feature in the Nonconformists group. Thank you for sumbitting it, George.
Glad you had an "Americana -type" experience. I have a feeling, you were in the minority.
PS: thanks for featuring this.
it was unusually warm here , I actually spent about 30 minutes up on the roof doing winter prep, it was most enjoyable.
The greenback god.
Humans seem to be attracted to "the frenzy" all over the world. It almost seems like we've developed a "buy or be bought" paranoia.
This morning, I heard that ebay did more business on Black Friday than any other web site. Since ebay is the world's biggest thrift store, maybe the tide is turning.
My sentiments exactly. It almost looks like if the shoppers don't empty their pockets on black friday the earth will stop spinning and everyone else will escape earth's gravity ( I wish that were true - free space trip)
Buy or Die !!!!!!!!!!!!
By used and bring it back to life, that what I say !
Spend less; celebrate more !
How many Elmos did Jesus get this year ?
Does he want us to buy Elmo, or make him ourselves ?
