My daughter lucked out this summer when two families moved in (one next door, one behind us) with kids about the same age as her. We've lived in this house since she was a year old and she hasn't had any kids in close proximity that were her age to play with.
That's not to say she hasn't had friends, but she's never had convenient friends living close by. She attented to the same school where my wife taught for kindergarten and first grade. Since the school was about twenty miles from our house going to a friends house to play was a big ordeal. Now that she has kids close by,she wants to play with them all the time.
Case in point, the other day my daughter was outside playing and saw one of the neighbor kids, Calvin, on his swingset. She came inside and asked her mother if she could play with him, but my wife told her no since we were leaving soon.
My daughter was visibly disappointed, but she did not cry.
She did not whine.
She did not throw a temper tantrum.
What did she do?
She issued a written protest:

Management has received her grievance and has yet to issue a response.
(In case your wondering if I plan to make a poster size version of this photo and display it at her high school and college graduation parties, the answer is a resounding yes.)
