Sixteen years ago today, I awoke at 2:45 am from a sound sleep to a ruptured amniotic surprise. An hour and a half, and some serious hard work later, I was handed a small bundle.

Who knew this adorable wee one would grow up to be ...."Trentastic" (his band's nickname - not mine!)

He's been the class clown since Kindergarden......

A born leader, he's had friends and fans doing his bidding from an early age. Here he is with his step-brother and pals, planning an over the garden wall prison break.

I'm going to retain my status as a "fairly cool mom" and not post any naked or embarrassing pre-adolescent chubby pictures. Let's go straight to the hair. This was about two years ago. He thought he was ready to do shampoo commercials with this mop.

But teenagers are all about change. This was his next "look," shortly after he broke his leg and started playing in a local garage band.

He cleans up really nice when he wants to though..... (I'm not allowed to post the entire homecoming dance picture because he went with a girl other than his current steady.)

This morning, I got up early and made him the traditional "Mickey Mouse Pancake" breakfast. There was a bit of pay-back involved. He jumped out at me from behind the pantry door last night and nearly had me soil myself.
No.....the pancake was completely edible (although there was little resemblence to any Disney character....think Star Trek and when something beamed in while the transporter was malfunctioning...)
I just reminded him that Mom was, is, and always shall be the "Mistress of Gotcha." with this little photo, and of course this article.

He will be able to comfort himself with this cake, which the same pancake mutilating mommy crafted in her kitchen this afternoon.
Now, I know you're wondering about the title. You see, two of the three children I brought into this world were unplanned "mistakes."
Trent, you're one of my favorites. Happy Sixteenth - and don't ever even THINK about a payback if you want a ride to your driver's test!
I love you son ;)

(is that his name?)
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I had a blast (chortle) and can't wait until he arrives home from practice to see it...
:-)
Sandy - You're gonna make me sniffle!
Matthew - Thanks for stopping in - and for tipping your hat to all us mommies!
Happy Sixteenth to both of you. Trent, kiss your Mom!
Kathryn - They just get so big so danged FAST! I must admit it's nice to have such a strapping young man at my beck and call to haul groceries and move furniture. At the same time, I'm a bit sad tonight. Before I know it, he'll be all grown up. Hopefully the lure of mom's twisted sense of humor and chocolate drenched cake will bring him home often ;)
George - Trent wants me to tell you that Mom is only allowed to watch and promote the band. I do however, tend to dance (rather like Elaine from Seinfeld) in the aisles during performances ;)
What a nice post and such a thoughtful gift for your son! I hope you two have a memorable day.
Carl - Funny you should mention that ;) I think he ended up shaving his head because too many thugs at school took his new look as an attempt to join their ranks. He wore a knitted ski cap for weeks after so no one would think he was a skin head.
What a wonderful tribute to Trent on his birthday (or any other time, for that matter)! This made me smile and also made me realize that it will not be that long before my mistake (or "surprise") will be turning 16. My daughter would love that mop look if I were to show her the photos.
I am a sucker for sweet, little babies, so my favorite photo of him was his infant photo. Trent has quite a personality, as is evident by your photos.
Did the cake taste as good as it looks?
I loved your comments! I'm proud to say that Trent is something of a "babe-magnet" - but that's a double edged sword. I'm just glad he has a very nice, smart, and common-sensical girl friend at the moment ;)
As for the cake, I didn't get to eat any of it. I'm trying to be good in prep for a company trip to Hawaii with my husband in a few weeks. But everyone else had seconds!

Thanks for checking this out!
Made me remember when my daughter turned 16, I kinda did something special too. I woke them up with a little mini birthday cake, and the song (can't remember the title) "...You come on like a dream, peaches and cream, lips like strawberry wine...you're 16, you're beautiful and you're mine!..."
And with my younger daughter, I was really goofy...I did it when she was walking back in her room and I grabbed her hands and started dancing with her!
One more kid to go...the boy, but I have 8 more years to think of something special. Can't play the same song, so the Mickey Mouse pancakes sound like a good tradition to start about now!
Happy B-day Trentino!!!
Happy Belated Birthday Trentino.
Gisela, you are so much fun. Your kids are really blessed.
