Gather, Newest Diet Miracle!!

I took my German Shepard to the vet today and when no one was looking I hopped on the dog scale. I thought for sure I had gained a few pounds, but was surprised to see I lost 4 pounds! While driving home I contemplated this mystery to Kira (my dog.) She rolled her eyes, sighed and proceeded to lick her butt as I rambled on as to how I could have lost 4 pounds.

 

After nearly being squashed by a semi and giving the driver the one finger salute it hit me! Gather! For the past 6 weeks if I am not writing on gather, I am reading and commenting on gather! I spend more time on gather than I do with my husband. And as some of you gals with husbands know, that could be a good thing.

 

My brain ticked away through several traffic lights, which I hope were all green. I did hear a lot long honks through a few...The theory was fully formed in my head as Kira barged over me and out of the car. Gather is the newest weight loss miracle!

 

Finally every girl's dream diet; I can sit on my ass and lose weight as long as gather is on my screen. Oh, sure I will have to put in an effort, like all weight loss plans. But this plan I actually enjoy!

Only one problem remains; what do I do when the girl scouts come out of the wood work in the next few weeks??

This is cute, and so true! As long as one is typing, or concentrating on Gather, one is not eating.
Of course, one may be sipping on a glass of wine........

I lost 2 more pounds last week, now that you mention it. That's 17 pounds this year, most of which came after I joined. Of course, I do exercise now and eat better, but -- nah, I think you're right, it's sitting here reading and writing that is doing it!

Actually I have heard tell that the brain uses a surprising amount of calories when you actually use it. That hint of smoke coming out of your ears may not be an illusion! lol

I think you've got it all wrong Mandi...Nice thought though...I wish that were the case! But instead of being out walking the dog, or shopping, or cleaning or using the body in "other" ways, we are sitting here on office chairs reading and writing. That lack of physical activity will eventually add pounds not take them off.

It if were only true!!!!! I have set my goal for April 1 with the change to daylight savings time. I will be walking more in the evenings and spending less time in this chair. I take that back. I will probably just stay up later so I can have my gather time and still walk.

LOL! This is too cute. I too have noticed that I have lost some weight since I've been on here. I definitely don't think about eating as long as I'm talking with you guys.

My guess that the effect is more from what Serina says, but brains really do burn energy, honest.

Mandi, I'm glad you've lost weight (and look forward to future articles and future weight loss) but, I don't think you should think about Gather when you're driving.

I am going to subscribe to this theory whether it is true or not. I can feel myself getting thinner and thinner. Actually, I used to eat a lot at night (my dangerous time) but I don't have time anymore. There is no room on my computer desk for food what with one cat on the mouse and another on the printer and me fighting for a little area so I can type.

Kira is 12 now and has a thyroid problem(like me) and is allergic to all meat. She is much better these days and is quite perky for an old girl! Thanks for asking everyone!

One thing for sure, if the weight's not hitting the hips (or peeling off), Gather has got to be swelling our brains. That is, if all those unused cells are being put to good use and plumping up..

perfect theory from where I sit, getting - imaginarily at least - thinner as we speak. . .

. . . except when the story mentions Everything Bagels - or - gril scout cookies. Now if I just never saw food mentioned in the Gatherhood, and was hoked up to a hydration IV I'd be all set.

See...now I am just not that disciplined because I end up here in my home office, typing, reading and of course....SNACKING!! Oh and I agree...buy the Thin Mints...my mom once told me they have no calories if you eat them standing up. LOL. She's so sill sometimes :)
I CAVED.. DAMN GIRL SCOUTS WERE CRAWLING ALL OVER THE SUPER MARKET... I GOT THE THINMINTS AND THE PEANUT BUTTER PATTIES.

I'm eating the kids' goldfish snacks while I'm reading this (the leftovers from their lunch boxes, so as not to waste food, you understand). I suspect this might interfere with the benefits you've observed :-(

So....does this diet work if I'm wolfing down tira masu left over from last night's dinner out while typing? Or is there some secret formula - twenty postings for every 10 calories.........
Gisela, I did about 40 posts in 6 weeks.. so thats a poundlost for every 10
posts ;-) That's pretty good!
Ken, let us know how it works for a guy!

ps.. I haven't snacked at all while writing.. well ok, maybe once..on the skittles..

Greetings from Maine! I'm there with all of you. . . . I like Mr. Schneider's crunch idea (versus some of the other crunchy ideas) -- but I am most worried about NOT WRITING if I am focused on reading, commenting, and the general task avoidance that is a pitfall for me if my GATHER e-mails are piling in. Out of respect for my colleagues, I just don't want to let them go -- but I'm losing serious writing time. Is this problematic for all of you? I love to support everyone's work, but is it healthy to be avoding my own? Please comment. . . . .
