There is a mole on his back,
Black, perfectly round,
Like a period ending
A statement of fact.
I worry that it's cancer,
His body's way of dealing
With far too much sun
Over half a century.
Watching him sleep,
I wonder if he'll stay
Here in our bed each night
Like the other half of me.
Thirty years as one
Is a long, long time,
As gleefully wedded
We've navigated life.
He works too hard,
Taking care of me
Earning money for pills
That keep me here, in need.
Wouldn't he rather be
More free, less toiling,
Without responsibility?
Love scoffs at the thought.
Still, I worry for him, for me.
There's a mole on his back,
Dark disquiet in our lives,
Threatening to change us.

"without hope we have nothing,
without living love, we have no hope!" this quote I wrote years ago, I pass it your way as I know you have touched it many times, pass it on to someone!
L.
Magi
LORETTA - Yes, change is ever with us as we wake up evolving to get through each day. It's all part of the fun of living.
CHRISTOPHER - I knew it was a dark poem, but it was one way of coming to grips with the realities of life. Thank you for the quote about "living love" and hope. That means a lot to me!
LLOYD - Thank you...the same to you. Sometimes I let the malady talk. I guess this was one of them, but I'm okay. Life is a beautiful gift, and as long as I've got my ticket, I might as well ride the merry go round until someone else turns it off.
WILHELMINA - It was a disquieting morning. I woke before him, and let my mind do a lot of free associating. Sometimes I should resist that urge. LOL!
NANCY - I'm lucky every day to have my very best friend in the whole universe for a lover and mate. I wish everyone could be so blessed.
NATHAN - Indeed. That we live forever I do not doubt. There will come a time when once more I'll dance in pink toeshoes and run with the wind. Until then I ignore what I must and live for the glory of each day. So much to learn, so little time!
MOYA - He will. It hasn't grown at all, and doesn't really have any of the "warning signs" so I'll just keep an eye on it. Gleefully wedded really says it best for us. We laugh every single day about something.
MAGI - Exactly. The spirit is what counts, and so I try every day to rise above the maladies and feed my soul.
