Minneapolis, Minn. - Vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin took the stage last night at the Republican National Convention, giving a rousing speech that has garnered accolades from both party faithful and political adversaries alike.
Commenting on Palin's speech, Barack Obama told a reporter, "Governor Palin uh..uh..she uh....uh..basically repeated uhhh....uh..she repeated uh....uh..the same sort of things that uh....uh...(burning smell)...uh....the things...uh...that George Bush uh...uh...uh..has uh...said before. But she uh...uh...did...uh...okay...for a woman, I guess."
Obama running mate Joe Biden was typically blunt in assessing his Republican counterpart's performance: "I can't lie, she kicked the crap out of us. I feel like I've been bitch-slapped by a sumo wrestler."
My comment: It's obvious McCain isn't much needed in this race, Palin clearly has the brains and brawn to handle two socialists with the combined IQ of a bicycle seat.

I also like how the libs have been shut-up by her strong performance. No one uttered the B word until today.... and now they're desperate and angry. Please, keep using that sort of language -- it will only make the party more resolute.
I do not think that referring to Brian Moore and Stewart Alexander
(http://www.votebrianmoore.com/)
as having "the combined IQ of a bicycle seat" is fair or accurate.
The education of the presidential candidates of the Socialist Party are impeccable, at least compared to that of the GOP candidates.
Brian Moore :
• Masters Degree, Public Administration (MPA), Arizona State University, 1976
• Bachelors Degree, Philosophy, Mission San Luis Rey College, California, 1966
• Graduate School, California State University, Los Angeles, Political Science,1968
Stewart Alexander:
• Attended California State University
• Air Force Reserve
THE IRAQ WAR ALL OVER AGAIN?
OK - I am convinced Sarah Pallin is tough as nails but feminen at the same time. She reminds me of a hostile Goldy Hawn. Polls indicate she may have won a victory last night but will she and the Republican's win their war?
She is indeed a "pit bull" and earns the right to be nick named Sarah Barracuda. But she also lacks vision. I thought that the Republicans need to gain enough votes from the independents to add to the solid base to be able to win the election. I think she will get some but probably turn greater numbers of them off.
The mantra of the Republican's is Country first. But the zingers, the tone, the sarcasm, the adolescent humor was hardly inclusive and conciliatory. Rather it was derisive and devisive. Just whose country are the Republicans talking about? Not mine!
The Republicans had a golden opportunity to be serious and talk to Americans sensibly and objectively. I guess the truth is they have very little of substance to offer so they resort to all the tactics that have been known to "work." Winning the election is everything - the end justifies the means.
In this connection McCain has the ultimate responsibility for setting the tone and thrust of the attitudes that guide his campaign. It is his choice to sell himself out - endorsing values he has discounted for years in the service of winning the election at all costs.
Some flip-flopping is no big deal. Flip flopping on essential values is a very big deal.
Making the point crystal clear is an article in today's New York Times called: Serving a Cause and a Desire to Succeede by Mark Leibovich and David D. Kirkpatrick
"As he accepts the Republican presidential nomination... John McCain stands at the pinnacle of a career defined by a singular ambivalence about his own ambition, and success. Time and time again, he lunges for the prize, then lashes himself for letting his pursuit get the better of him - for doing favors for his patron Charlkes H. Keating Jr., for stooping to ugly attacks on George W. Bush during the 2000 primary, for outbursts of temper at lawmakers who get in his way.
It reflects what his brother calls "a public dialectic"between the Senator's drive to succeed and his desire to serve a higher cause. For decades his outward display of that inner conflict has proved advantageous, helping advance his career by forging his image as the un-politican, the candidate with an almost reckless disregard for his own fortunes.
HIs critics assert that the McCain of 2008 is not the McCain of 2000, or even 2007. He has surrounded himself with former proteges of Karl Rove, whose tactics he once denounced, embraced positions he once repudiated and initiated a series of attacks on Senator Barak Obama's patriotism that some say resemble the rhetorical rough -housing he regretted eight years ago. "Bring Back the Real McCain!" the cover of the Economist magazine implored last week.
The real McCain seems to be revealed in the last two paragraphs of the Times article. Paragraph one is what his best backers want to believe about him; the last paragraph is what McCain really believes about himself.
"His associates say Mr. McCain has come to see the presidential race in starkly moral terms, convinced that Mr. Obamas' election would weaken American at a decisive moment for the security of the world. But Mr. McCain is also the first to confess that not all his drives are so selfless."
"I didn't decide to run for president to start a national crusade for the political reforms I believed in or to run a campaign as if it were some grand act of patriotism, "he wrote in 2002." "In truth, I wanted to be president because it had become my ambition to be president." He added,"I had the ambition for a long time."
That sounds authentic but harldy fulfilling the mantra of Country First.
So what should the Democrats do? I would have them do what the Saddham Hussein soldiers did after our shock and awe attacks. Give us enough rope to make us feel we have them on the ropes and then attack their flanks.
Obama anbd Biden should be polite, humorous, but serious. They should not get seduced into a p...ng contest. Confuse the Republicans by an avalanche of the facts. That should eventually unglue both John McCain and Sarah Palin. Behind the bluster, nasty insults, trivializing important issues is the undeniable fact that the Republicans have rendered us bankrupt on multiple levels.
The Democrats need remain steady and like a lazer beam: keep the light shining on the true state of affairs, and true to the highest and the best.
I think you heard some facts and direction last night. Sorry you don't "feel" good about them. Hang on for a few decades and America will continue to shift left as it has for the last 5 decades until a more suitable socialistic state evolves for you to be happy in. OR you can find other countries right now that are even semi free and go be happy there. No need to change the America the rest of us love. There is no other country like ours and I and others are quite satisfied in fixing the broken parks to keep in in tact rather than change it into something it was never intended to be.
Michael Moore? What are you referring to??
BTW, Nice job attacking the United Negro College Fund. I'm sure your mom is proud of you.
You are assuming. The only Socialists running are Brian Moore and Stewart Alexander.
Fear tactics only work on the dimwitted, so I suppose your Hussein remark is aimed at your GOP brethren.
I think we both know that the Democrats can only succeed if they can convince the citizens of this country that they are, contrary to facts, less-employed, poorer, sicker, and more at danger than they were at the beginning of the present administration - in other words, Obama and Biden need to lie like there's no tomorrow.
Fortunately, not every person in this county is a welfare recipient or historically ignorant.
Cliff notes: Truth + Democrats = Oil + water.
8 Reasons Sarah Palin is More Qualified than Barack Obama

If you actually took the time to read the proposals (instead of just looking at the pictures), you would notice that his plan results in a net tax savings for those making under $250,000.
If you consider a tax break for 98% of the US population to be 'Socialism', you are truly ignorant.
If you are in the elite 2%, then I have no sympathy for you.
People like me employ people and drive this economy. You and your party's class warfare / welfare mentality is counter to everything that built this country. That's why business owners hate B. Hussein's idiotic counter-productive policies.
This isn't a socialist country, and we don't need socialist solutions, or a clueless socialist leader.
I used to believe that providing tax incentives for the rich (we are talking ultra-rich here because that is where the incentives are) and for large corporations would lead to more job creation, which would then trickle down to the workers who would then have more buying power and a greater quality of life. I voted Republican most of my life for that very reason. Well, it hasn't worked. For most Americans, the quality of life has deteriorated. An incredible number of people are choosing between food, gas and whether or not they can afford to go to the doctor. My generation is far worse off than my parents' generation, and I am concerned about my children and grandchildren if things continue on this downward spiral. Only a fortunate few have benefited -- CEO salaries are out of control, tax incentives favor the ultra-rich, and health care is only affordable to some. The war has cost our nation dearly in terms of lives lost, our reputation in the world, and crumbling economy and infrastructure back home.
So, Scooter Van Neuter (are you related to Scooter Libby by chance?), it is hard-working people who built this country. That's not socialism, that's entrepreneurship.
Sounds like you're stuck in the past if you are talking stereotypes like "welfare mentality" and "socialism." Too bad for you -- we are on to the future!
Sad to be so gutless.
Not sure!?! Let me reload my bong and I'll get back to you.
There you go again. Nothing intelligent, just name calling. Pity!
You are either lying or horribly delude/deceived if you truly believe this - facts say quite the opposite.
Also, I know MANY business owners, and they are absolutely terrified of Obama's wealth redistribution plans.
"Coverage of the Palin attacks on the news this evening just pushed us over $10 million," Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in an e-mail to reporters Wednesday night.
Make that $10,000,025. I just send in another small donation myself.
This was funny!!
Your journalistic skills are impeccable. This is the most spectacular post I have seen on Gather for awhile. So much truth!
Then don't vote for Brian Moore and Stewart Alexander.
Capt,
What does Michael Moore have to do with this discussion?
I understand though, jokes are all you have because you have no facts to go on.. In FACT after eight years of having a JOKE of a GWB/McCain/Rove Admin and actually thinking it was a Good thing all I would be able to do while in the mental institution would be to make jokes also!
Bob, I really think you should leave the comedy to me...... :)
BTW, Your impassioned and intelligent rebuke has shamed me into admitting I was wrong about Obama and Biden's IQ. I should have said, "It's obvious McCain isn't much needed in this race, Palin clearly has the brains and brawn to handle two socialists with the combined IQ of a swim fin."
Sorry!
Here's a hint: At the time she ran for governor, when asked whether she thought the words "under God" should remain in the Pledge of Alledgiance, she said hecky yes. If they were good enough for the founding fathers, they're good enough for Sarah Palin. "Under God" we all know, was inserted into the pledge in the 1950s. Not sure which founding fathers she is referring to.
Bill,
Are you Mom and Baby Daddy proud of you for using racial slurs?
Palin didn't make any claims that the founding fathers wrote the Pledge.
PS: I'm sure the whole "God" thing infuriates you :)
PSS: And you're supporting for PRESIDENT a guy who believes there are 57 states? :)
Would you like a recap of John McCain's misspeaks??
I cant remember where I heard this, I think it was on tv but it made sense to me.... the people run around with in your youth is your future.... I guess bammy made his future, when hanging around with William Ayers, Rev. Wright.... and all the other racists in his life... including his wife Michelle....
Robert --
John McCain and the Republicans had all week to make their case -- and they didn't do it.
The whole Republican convention went by without offering a single idea about how to improve the lives of ordinary Americans.
People noticed. In the last 24 hours, more people donated to this campaign for the first time than ever before. Thank you for responding so strongly.
Barack is making clear what this election should be about. At a campaign stop in Pennsylvania yesterday, he spoke out about exactly what we didn't hear at the Republican convention.
You clowns sure post some funny sh*t:-)
Delete me you with the leetle weewee.
But then you don't really know anything about the Palin's do you. Only what the pub's tell you.
Elitism is the belief or attitude that those individuals who are considered members of the elite — a select group of people with outstanding personal abilities, intellect, wealth, specialized training or experience, or other distinctive attributes — are those whose views on a matter are to be taken the most seriously or carry the most weight; whose views and/or actions are most likely to be constructive to society as a whole; or whose extraordinary skills, abilities or wisdom render them especially fit to govern [1
