...was and is: Destroy America! How best to accomplish this goal than to ruin our economy, education, respect for one another and division of our country. 9/11 seems to have caused more long lasting damage than just the deaths of over 3,000 people or the destruction of buildings.

Americans chased the terrorists in Afghanistan, freeing its citizens from the slavery of the Taliban, which was a good thing, but what a price we paid! Bin Laden still roams the hills and caves and his followers perpetuate his beliefs and terror tactics.
Iraq raised its ugly head, and we responded. Again, what a price we paid, and are still paying. There, again, we freed its citizens from tyranny and corruption. The hated leader of its country found Justice at the hands of his own people. And, still, the violence continues.
I suppose if you look at America as you would a marriage, it would be easier to understand its complicated dilemma. Marriages are torn apart because of economics, religion, loyalty, ethnic standards, and other factors that cause dissatisfaction, unhappiness and finally, divorce. Is not America facing similar situations? Look closely and you will see the drop in the value of the dollar, the rise in gas, utilities, food, health care, child care, illegal immigration, the bridge to nowhere and other needless spending, the attacks on both political parties coupled with the unrest of the population all spells disaster, in one form or another.
Ethanol was developed in the '80's but ended because it was too expensive to produce. Do the politicians think we are too "sheep minded" to remember? Ted Kennedy has refused to allow windmills near his state because it will ruin the view! Have we forgotten that? There are huge oil deposits off the coast of Alaska, but the "green people" oppose drilling under the guise of conservation. Al Gore's threat of global warming, (remember he invented the internet), has won him more awards and fame.
Other countries are watching the Presidential Candidates fighting, name calling and abusing each other. They shake their heads in disbelief that America would even consider letting a man who refuses to wear a flag pin or place his hand across his heart for the Pledge of Allegiance or the National Anthem -- yet he is running for President of the United States! Those two facts, alone, would prevent me from ever voting for him. My Patriotism is too great. My heart still swells when I see our Flag flying, or hear the Anthem being played. I weep for those killed on 9/11, but I also weep for our troops who have been killed or wounded in far off places. I weep for those troops who are still fighting and dying to preserve this country and everything it stands for.
The day we stand in the voting booth is the same day we determine America's destiny. Each of us must think long and hard before placing a vote for ANY candidate. Our children, grandchildren and America's future depends on that vote! Let us hope we get
it right.
GOD BLESS AMERICA!

I agree that the rest of the world is wathcing us in disbelief but not for theshallow reasons you point out. They are trying to figure out how such a pethetic soul such as our president could have been elected by a so called intelligent citizenry and continue to follow his misguided ways. While you claim patriotism I suggest you take a real look at what the meaning of patriotism actually is. I am so sick and tired of people hiding under the guise of patriotism yet totally ignoring the nearly and actually illegal (constitutionally) activities of our adminstration. I grant you agreement that we correctly went to Afghanistan chasing those who, at the time, were associated with the WTC disaster but we did not accomplish much there and have allowed the Taliban to return with even a stronger hold on that countries activities.
You used the term Iraq raised its ugly head and we responded. But what did that have to do with chasing terrorism? Terrorism was nearly non existant when we got to Iraq yet now is one of the leading seats for its creation and growth. We had no legitmate reason to invade Iraq in the least and have none now to remain there. Did the terrorist cause that? Of course not ..our own misguided blood thirsty leaders did that on their own.
You are so right in saying we should give thought to who we vote for president. It is high time you show real patiotism and vote all those yo yos who allowed this fiasco of a condition we have out of office. They have not only allowed but created the situation which has ruined the value of the dollar, put us in historically high debt, helped to destroy the value of our homes, reduced the level of acceptance of America around the world and above all beyond the invasion of a country who could do little harm to us at all destroyed our integrity as a country. Yet, thru all this you speak of patriotism and the wonderment of voting for someone who refuses to wear a lapel pin and a flag on his coat. Look who you are comparing his action to. The very crooks who wear those pins are stealing the America we used to know right from under your nose but you holod back your support from a man who has more integrity in his toe than most of the ones who are responsible for the condition this country is in now.
Have we really progressed or have we lost something in the trade for modern wants, not needs , wants.? I want this and I want that...I have to have more and better than my parents had.... Bigger houses, bigger and expensive cars, designer clothes.
We dont have time to sit on the front porch on SUnday after Church services and drink our lemonaide...Oh, we dont have time to go to church, and by now, most of us dont even believe in God... We just dont have the time to get to know our neighbors, much less help them or check in on the elderly man or woman who lives right down the street from us...
This country is in a sad state,,, I miss the good ole' days...
Farakond, Risco, Myers and a few others who are against America, are also best buddies for 20 years with a Presidential Candidate.
Vickey, nice to see you. Your reply makes a lot of sense and the only way to rectify this is by starting in our own lives, reaching out to others with the message, and etc.
I, too, miss the good ole days!
Truthfulness is the key here. When the actions of this country are collectively defended...without the honesty of careful self examination...we can only sink further into the quagmire of the delusion of false pride.
You have pointed out a few of the mistakes and blunders in which our country has been a part. You have pointed out the lack of forethought of our elected leaders in some matters. And you have suggested that we carefully consider how we vote this fall. All of what is have written is valid, but so are the words Spencer wrote.
If believe that Obama is NOT the man we should vote for this fall....then that is your prerogative. If you think that the Republicans and McCain are the better choice...then vote for McCain....but do so because you believe that McCain will put a halt to the loss of lives to which you so emotionally refer. Do so because you believe the Republicans offer to provide the best promise of peace...even though that has not been their priority for the past several years as the war in Iraq continues and the talk of invading Iran escalates. Do so because you can draw no correlation between the weakened dollar and the spending of a trillion dollars that we don't have. Do so if you really think that McCain can offer real change and not simply continue the policies of Bush and the Republican party. Do so and HOPE you are right.
WTF did Iraq do?
"Look closely and you will see the drop in the value of the dollar, the rise in gas, utilities, food, health care, child care, illegal immigration, the bridge to nowhere and other needless spending, the attacks on both political parties coupled with the unrest of the population all spells disaster, in one form or another."
Every one of these is a direct result of republican policies. Don't like what's happened to America over the past 27 years? Stop voting republican.
"Ethanol was developed in the '80's but ended because it was too expensive to produce."
What planet are you living on? Have you never heard of E-85? Are you not aware that some states mandate that gas be mixed at 10% with ethanol? Do you just make things up at will?
"Ted Kennedy has refused to allow windmills near his state because it will ruin the view! Have we forgotten that? "
Massachusetts has never been considered a viable wind energy-producing state. Meanwhile, it was Redink Ronnie that tore apart Carter's program to electrify 20% of the nation with solar energy by the year 2000.
"There are huge oil deposits off the coast of Alaska"
There is a deposit that is presumably as large, or larger than the entire oil reserve of Saudi Arabia, in western ND. It is currently being tapped. However, reserves do not always equal production, and the fact remains that we will never drill our way out of this problem, particularly since the core of the problem is the very addiction to oil itself.
Meanwhile, oil companies conspired in the 80's to dismantle and no longer build any more refineries, so that they could manipulate the price of gasoline at will. Even if we DID pump out every drop of oil available everywhere in and around the US, we will never be able to refine more gas than we currently are, unless/until more refineries are built. Fact of life. We are NOT being held hostage right now because we're short of oil.
"Al Gore's threat of global warming, (remember he invented the internet), has won him more awards and fame."
Al Gore isn't the one that invented the idea of global warming. He merely saw the evidence and facts, and took the initiative to inform a misinformed populace, in the hopes that something would be done to attempt to reverse the trend.
Btw, he also never claimed to have invented the internets. That was another reichwing lie.
"They shake their heads in disbelief that America would even consider letting a man who refuses to wear a flag pin or place his hand across his heart for the Pledge of Allegiance or the National Anthem "
You must be speaking of John McCain, because the world is anxiously awaiting President Obama being sworn into office. I too, have wondered, however, why John McCain refuses to wear a Chinese-made flag lapel pin, as his followers demand from all politicians. It is, indeed, an interesting conundrum, is it not?
"Those two facts, alone, would prevent me from ever voting for him. My Patriotism is too great."
Yeah, I can't vote for McCain either, simply because he will not wear one of those Chinese pins. I mean, for me, NOTHING says "patriotic American" more than a politician that wears a Chinese-manufactured lapel pin in the shape of a flag.
"I also weep for our troops who have been killed or wounded in far off places."
And, to think...not a single one of those nearly 4,100 Americans would be dead today, had it not been for a corrupt, dishonest president lying this nation into an illegal, unnecessary war and occupation of a country that posed us no threat whatsoever, while at the same time, allowing Bin Laden and al Qaeda to escape to freedom in Pakistan, where they continue to be sheltered from justice. Makes my heart swell just thinking about those terrorists being allowed to get all snuggly and cozy while we destroy ourselves in Iraq.
"The day we stand in the voting booth is the same day we determine America's destiny. Each of us must think long and hard before placing a vote for ANY candidate. Our children, grandchildren and America's future depends on that vote! Let us hope we get it right."
Amen. We most assuredly cannot withstand and survive another 4 years of disastrously failed republican leadership.
"GOD BLESS AMERICA!"
Let's all just hope and pray that he's not a just God.
Iraq's "ugly head" had nothing to do with the attacks on the United States, as every investigation has established.
The reckless war by the Idiot in Chief has accomplished Bin Laden's goal of bankrupting the US Treasury and isolating the US from allies.
Simply and laughably untrue. Do you ever read any of the foreign papers?
They think our cult of patriotic religion is absurd.
Other countries ridicule us for focusing on such trivial and meaningless things as flag labels while the AWOL in Chief says that he can ignore the Constitution.
Primarily, and deservedly, for the Republican Party.
Stephen, I share my above statement with you, also. Thanks for the comment.
Carol, thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. It's great to see you again.
Priscilla, thank you, you are a breath of fresh air!
I always find it fascinating to hear progs/libs make such a big thing of what foreign talking heads think of us. They have never liked us under any president unless we were doing what THEY felt was important. These nations (almost always tends to be European) think love of country is a false religion. That is why their populations are dwindling as so many of leave for other shores (ours is still a prime attraction) and they must scream for US help/protection whenever someone threatens them...
Criticism of one's nation is no brave or necessarily patriotic thing in a Republic where nothing can happen to you, it is a hollow bravery for there are no consequences...Despite the slow crumbling of this nation, you can still call the president anything you want and say the worst things you can think of about the country and still find lots of people who will cheer you on....
"Clinton's image of youth convinced enough voters looking for CHANGE to vote for the first time in a decade for a Democrat, thus sealing his victory." Quote from last paragraph, concerning the Bush vs Clinton election. I remember looking at the ballot and picking the "lesser of two evils". I voted for Clinton, but now, looking back, was he REALLY the "lesser"? The quote can be found here
Nice to see you Larry. Thanks for stopping by.
Several other posters here have made counterpoints to June's arguments, so there's no need for me to do the same. Most of what she says, and what others here have said, are perfectly reasonable, given the prisms that we all view things through. What I find disturbing, though, is how some "facts" touted by both sides are based on distortions and innuendo.
I most heartily agree with June's conclusion - we need to think long and hard, for our children's sake and their children's as well. But think we must, and not allow ourselves to be bullied into believing things that are either untrue or irrelevant.
