My discussion with a Professor over how Christians ought to view Universal Health Care.
TEACHER: Well, don't you think Jesus would want you to give to the needy?
PALEO: Yes! But there is a huge difference between my being charitable and the State putting the civil sword to my neck telling me that I must give the State money so it can be charitable for me. And if you want to know what Jesus thought about things of this nature you would only have to look so far as Torah. What does the Torah say about the State, taxes, charity, and personal responsibility?
TEACHER: But what about "Give unto Caesar what is Caesars'?"
PALEO: Certainly, and Caesar must also give to God what is God's! God never granted Caesar the right to make up his own rules. The Church and the State may be distinct institutions but both of them are under the authority of God and his Word.
Messiah v. Messianic State:
JESUS: Seek ye first the kingdom of God and I will add all these things (food and clothing) to you.
WELFARE STATE: Seek me first and I will take money from others in order to give you minimum wage, price controls, food stamps, subsidized housing, universal health care, and a ton of other socialist goodies!
