https://www.cia.gov/careers/CIAMyths.html I doubt this will translate into a hyperlink but it is sooo worth clicking and pasting!!! Try the "personality quiz". Are they trying to recruit 10 year olds? High school drop outs? Folks, no matter what the loyalists are saying, and the populace is buying, the "War on Terror" is not going well.
We have spent over $800,000,000,000.00 so far, how could Bin Laden be upset at that? Part of our country has gone rabid and is undermining the very ideals that we are supposed to be proud of. We have lost much of our historical support from our allies while pushing marginal countries towards their radical constituencies. Here's a quick story from my childhood that reminds me of Bush's war.
I was in second grade and the teacher had left the room for something. One of the kids thought he'd show off by running out the door for a second without getting caught. There were two doors and I directed the kid who will be playing Tony Blair to block one door, I would block the other so as to freak our brave friend a little. At almost the same time, BOTH of our doors started banging! Blair and I looked at each other with worry as we hunkered down to "stay the course". The thrashing grew stronger and stronger until Blair lost his footing and THE KID (Iraq maybe?)burst in! So there I was, the international community sitting wide eyed in there desks just feet away. It might has well been miles. I had heart though so I wedged my foot against the growing anger of the teacher. Stay the course...stay the course...what choice did I have?
OK, so I wished I was stronger, bigger, more capable and I am thinking Bush does too. The CIA is really suffering with recruiting at a time when we need more agents. We have upped the max age for National Guard enrollment to what, over 40? The strongest military force in the world is resorting to sending women and +50 year old soldiers into battle. The head of the army says his equipment is depleted and falling apart as he has to put his soldiers back into combat again. All this and, as the General Accounting Office reports, we are loosing in Iraq and Afganistan in almost every messurable way.
Don't listen to the loyalist cry that we can't criticize this war if we don't have good plans for it ourselves! There was a large group of Americans that expressed concern over strategy through as loud a medium as they could. They took it to the streets. Bush told us "You're either with us or against us" and attacked without a plan. He's screwed this up in historical proportions and continues to do so. How long can we go? How else will we compramise our safety, values, ethics and infrastructure to fight this war? Can people honestly think Bin Laden is upset that we have reacted in the way we have? Would the loyalist accept a liberal president for all of the same actions that Bush has used to get us here?
Bush is now trying to let us know that he does read newspapers. Maybe he should step it up and study how Rome fell through expansionism, materialism and primative tribes nipping at it's flanks.
