Last night's wine dinner menu
As I posted yesterday, my husband and I get together regularly for wine dinners with three other couples. Each couple is responsible for the food and wine for one course, and the couple doing the main course picks the theme of the evening. Last night, my parents had main course and they chose "romance" in honor of Valentine's Day.
Here's what we had:
Appetizer by Andi & Marc
Traditional Swiss Cheese Fondue with Asparagus tips, grape tomatoes, mushrooms, broccoli, Rosemary Foccacia, pears and apples; Served with McWilliams 2004 Riesling
Salad by me
Petite Steamed Asparagus over Mixed Greens, dressed with a Cherry-Mustard Vineagrette and finished with freshly shaved Parmesano Reggiano; Served with Caliterra 2004 Chardonnay
Entree by Mom & Dad
Herb-crusted Beef Tenderloin with a root vegetable ragout, including potatoes and parsnips; Served with McWilliams 2002 Cabernet Savignon
Dessert by Jesse & Mike
White Chocolate Ganache & Chocolate Brownie Truffle, accompanied by fresh strawberries; Served with 2005 Zeta Prosecco by Zardetto
Every course was delicious! I do not like oaky Chard's, and the wine I served was not oaky at all, but smooth and buttery, which worked well with the acid in the salad. The Prosecco was one of the best wines I'd had in a while—I wished we'd had another bottle. And at $24/bottle, you can't beat the price!
Wish you could have been there!
