This cook wasn't stumped. I adapted the wonderful ideas of Chelle the Belle (http://chelle2007.gather.com/) who came up with a recipe using the following five required ingredients as the base (including amounts):
1 whole chicken, skinned
1 small bag frozen peas
small handful fresh cilantro leaves, snipped
1 T sesame seeds, toasted
2 fresh pears, cored and sliced in half lengthwise
You also get to use water, salt and pepper, oil and up to three other ingredients.
The extra ingredients used were 2 onions sliced thinly, and fresh rosemary, stemmed.
To the slow cooker or crockpot, add the whole chicken with 1 cup of water, salt and pepper. Cover with 1 sliced onion and rosemary. Cook on low 8 hours.
Add the frozen peas about 1 hour before serving.
Remove chicken, onion and peas from cooker to a large platter. Cool slightly. Separate chicken pieces from bones, any skin and cartilage.
While chicken cools, start pears. In a deep skillet or frying pan add a little olive oil and saute the remaining sliced onion. Once the onion begins to caramelize, add the pears face down, nestled within the onion, and a splash of water. Turn when first side browns lightly. Pears are done when they are lightly browned and tender.
Serve chicken pieces and peas sprinkled with pepper and cilantro and drizzled with pan juices with pears and toasted sesame seeds.
If desired sprinkle with additional fresh rosemary.
