Eggs. Look at the best before date on the carton. Keep eggs in the carton, not the door. Throw away once they reach the expiration date.
Butter: Keeps for 2 to 4 weeks in the coldest part of the refrigerator. Will keep up to 4 months in an air tight bag, in the freezer.
Vegetable oil will keep for 3 months, after opening. Keep tightly capped in a cool, dry place. Keep out of sunlight.
Chocolate will keep for 1 year in a cool, dry place.
Cake mixes will last 9 months in a cool, dry place.
Syrup (maple or corn) will last 1 year, in the refrigerator.
All purpose flour will last 1 year, in a cool and dry place.
Baking Powder will last 1 year in an air tight container, after opening.
Granulated sugar will last 2 years, in a cool and dry place.

I had canned spices in tins that I had saved since 1974 until when I moved to my house last year.
I wondered if I should have saved some of the tins as they were getting mighty old.
