January 28, 2009, 2:56pm: John Updike, one of American's most prolific modern writers, lost a battle with lung cancer this morning, according to Nicholas Latimer of Alfred A. Knopf, a division of Random House. Updike, a Harvard graduate who won the Pulitzer in 1981 for his novel Rabbit is Rich, and again in 1991 for Rabbit at Rest, was 76.

But I guess he did have a good run. I loved his "Rabbit" series of books.
