A Question ...

Do you primarily buy books online, or do you prefer going to your local bookstore?

I used to prefer going to the bookstore, but over the past year, I primarily order books online.  Also in the past year, I have started reading (almost exclusively) books by independent authors.  I have found that the books by independent authors are excellent.  Yes, of course, there have been a few really bad ones, and by bad I mean horrible grammar.  But, overall, I have read some incredible books by relatively unknown authors.

I tend to buy books all over the place! But there's nothing like wandering aimlessly around a bookstore and finding all sorts of new authors that I probably wouldn't stumble upon online. I'd say I do about 20% of my book shopping online while the rest is in stores.

I've done both, but I prefer the actual bookstore. There's nothing like being able to browse.

I prefer to go to the bookstore, but I buy most of my books at thrift stores and library sales.

I do both. And my local bookstore has an online database; you can order the book online and pick it up at the store.

I use the library mostly. If I actually do buy the book, it depends on the book and the price. I go with the best deal, which is about even between Amazon and our local Borders.

And honestly, I've read some well known popular authors who've published with REALLY bad grammar mistakes. One of the recent Catherine Coulter books comes to mind.

Occaisonaly I go to Amazon for savings, but there is nothing more calming and good for my soul then browzing a bookstore. Even the coffee tastes better with a new unread book in my hand.

There's noplace in the world I like more than any Used bookstore. If possible, I buy whatever I can at anyone I walk into. I can browse for HOURS. Usually, though, if I'm looking for something very specific for a collection, or for a reading list or book club, then its online first.

I buy books wherever they're cheapest. I get hard cover books because those look best in my bookcase, so they would cost too much for me to get many if I didn't hunt for the cheapest. That usually means used books at library used book sales. Sometimes I get Borders gift cards from gather so buy books at Borders. Sometimes I use points my husband gets on his Amazon credit card and get books for nothing at Amazon.

We have a Book Barn that sells used hard cover books in one room and paperbacks in the other. I browse the store and pick up what I haven't read. I also buy new from Amazon.

I most often order books from Amazon or Half. com. We no longer have any independent bookstores in our town. I love finding and browsing the book shops when I am out of town.

All of the above- bookstores, online and libraries. I do miss bookstores where the salespeople were readers and could recommend a good book- alas not too many these days. I did a book signing in Stockbridge, Mass (Stockbridge Booksellers)- The owner is a fantastic guy who obviously loves books.
